Ok, I love the idea of no wires as much as the next guy but why all the love of products that just don’t perform like their wired counterparts? Try and beat my gigabit wired PC connection and fail. Stream audio and video over the air? Ya its come a long way but you still dont get the performance of wired connections.
True plenum wire is expensive (if you pay for it that is) but after the sweat of a weekend running that badboy via fiberglass snakes and wire snakes you are the coolest kid on the block.

The Cons

Data transmission rates
Extra security (more overhead)
More overhead (firmware updates to extra hardware etc)
interference (phone, security etc)

The Pros

Portability
Supposedly easy connections but id put ya to a test at just plugging in a cable

Every turn its wireless this and that and it only makes friends and family call more for help. At least when it was wired they were usually to intimidated to even try.

Ok thats all ive got for now. I have to go work on some funky Cisco Aironets for work :)

I would have to agree, wireless has it's place, like surfing the web on your laptop at a coffee shop. But for real speed and security wired is better.

I had this argument several times at work. Wireless is a big buzz word and marketing always wants us to make everything wireless. I once asked a marketing drone for one good reason to put wireless into a UPS (yes a UPS:confused:) and he said something like "Well the kind of person that would have a UPS on their home computer would be some kind of geek anyway and geeks think wireless is cool".

We still do not have wireless in any of our UPS's, but it's still often requested by marketing but yet to be requested by a customer.:p

Wireless is a mixed bag in the home due to the fact that you have many potential sources of interference and generally only one access point that may or may not be located ideally. At work it works flawlessly because we have a dozen access points on each floor. At home...not so much.

People see 11 mbs as the data rate for 802.11b and think that is plenty but there are so many other considerations that in practice make it somewhat flaky at times. I always prefer a wired connection and at least in my home it is easy to do from just about any room. Every once in awhile I do use wireless at home but mostly not.

I use wireless at home..for my phone..and my laptops. It is useful for stuff not too heavy, well i can still use it to stream clips.

My company was offered wireless phone connection...We stay away from that..Lol. Don't wanna risk that just yet.
