Windows Next Generation OS (Longhorn) to Support HD DVD

Reuters reported today that the Japanese unit of Microsoft Corp. stated the company's next-generation operating system, Longhorn, would be compatible with HD DVD. HD DVD (in case you've been living in a hole!) is an advanced form of DVD technology that is in direct competition with the competing Blu-ray Group format. HD DVD opts to sacrifice some space and bandwidth for excellent backwards compatibility with current manufacturing processes.
The show of support from Microsoft is considered a boost for the next-generation, blue-laser DVD technology, which is promoted by Japanese conglomerates NEC Corp. and Toshiba Corp.
