Another excellent "little" movie written and directed by Thomas McCarthy - Win Win is worth seeing. Paul Giamatti is a lawyer who needs money, takes guardianship of a client suffering from dementia to get his care stipend but finds himself also housing his client's runaway grandson, who is an excellent high school wrestler. I won't say how all this comes out, but the flick is excellent and full of New Jersey atmosphere, drama and good humor. All of the characters are well drawn and the cast, which includes Amy Ryan, Jeffrey Tambor, Bobby Cannavale and Alex Shaffer in his first role, all fit so well into their characters that they cease to seem like actors.
McCarthy's last film, The Visitor, which he also wrote and directed, was similar in that was a small film, with minimal production but excellent cast and script.
If this sounds like a recommendation, it's definitely a two-thumbs up if you're in need of some super-hero relief.
