JBL E80 Floorstanding Speaker
8 ohm 200 watt. These would be my front speakers

Pioneer s-P860V
8 ohm 150 watt These would be my rear or surround speakers
they are from an old shelf system that died on me and these speakers still work.

Subwoofer is an Awia TS-WM6
8 ohm 40 watt 6' Sub

The reciever is a Pioneer VSX-516S 7.1 Channel Receiver - Silver
100 watt x 7 channels at 8 ohms

In actuality I will be running it as a 5.1 when I add on a center speaker for now and possibly adding two more speakers in the future. Does this system seem like it will work without any major problems or issues, i.e. speaker blowout or amp fry. or should I change some things. I already own the subwoofer and the s-p860v's I am just looking at buying the reciever and the floor speakers. thanks for any help

I think your weak link is your sub here:D

I don't really have an extra 200+$ just to make my floor shake a little more at this point so I am not upgrading my sub. Is there a good chance I will blow the sub or hurt my reciever by using that little thing? if so I just won't hook it up

Just wanted to let you know:D
No, that will work just don't over drive it. Level match all the channels, including the sub to the same level as the rest of the speakers.

The sub is considerably less capable than the rest of the speakers. Keep an eye on it. In your setup it will be prone to getting overdriven.

Try different crossover settings

I would think the same … the sub probably being the “odd man out”. The JBL 80’s might have lots of lows to offer themselves so you might have a try with different settings: front speakers “small” or “large” and different cross-over frequencies (80 / 60 / 40, if your receiver gives you that choice) to figure out which combination sounds best to your liking.

I wouldn't even bother with that bass box. To call it a sub would be a misnomer. Compared to the big JBL's, all it will add is distortion.

Just run the fronts as "large" and set the sub to "off" until you can get a real sub.

As an owner of the e80's i would have to say that I think you'll be happy with them. I know i am. Something to consider though is that jbl has stopped production of there northridge line which is great for clearance prices but bad if you're wanting to upgrade to a center channel later. you definately want the fron three (Left, right and center channels) to timbre match. it makes for a much better complete sound. the good news is that you may be able to find the EC35 center channel for a decent price online. it's probably the best speaker in the northridge line and i noticed the best sound increase after adding it.
