I just dove in and Purchased a Denon avr 2112ci receiver and the Mirage OMD 5.1 speaker package with the Mirage OMD-28 as my fronts. I read that the OMD-28's need a ton of power to sound good. I have a chance to pick up a NAD 216THX 2 channel AMP for $240 and was wondering if I could have that powering just the OMD-28 fronts and If they would all work together and hook up easy one time so I don't have to hook and unhook cables for 5.1 movie watching and 2 channel music listening? Thanks for your help in advance!

If the Denon receiver has preamp outputs, you should be all set. Just connect the R/L preamp outs to the NAD and your front R/L speakers to the NAD.

Welcome to the forum!

Unfortunately, there isn't a good way to connect that amp (or any amp) to your receiver. The Denon 2112CI doesn't have pre-amp outputs to connect to an external amplifier.

EDIT: Sorry it took so long to reply, Mark, or I could have saved you some time - my internet is running pretty slow.

If you don't have pre-amp outputs to drive your external component amplifier..
These adapters are available and used for car audio applications..
They are available from many sources

Here is a link..

That really sucks. This whole thing started with a new receiver and escalated from there. I cant believe this receiver doesn't have pre-outs. Its not like It was the lowest entry level from denon. I used to be up on Audio equipment back in the day but just got back in. Well I guess I have a new denon avr-2112ci for sale. Hope I can get $500 :( Thanks for your help guys!!

With 125 wpc you may find you don't need those preouts.

And the 2112 might have been enough - but there is no stopping a guy when he gets the idea of external amps in his head eh?

I've got a few of them.

I hear ya, but that NAD 216, while a nice unit in itself, isn't really a significant step up, power wise, from what's in the receiver. IMNSHO, to make it worthwhile one would need to at least double the power.

Yeah I'm thinking the 3312 might be enough but at least now I can always upgrade if I want to. With the 2112 I was kinda stuck. I'm holding off on the 216 because as somebody I should get something bigger later if I'm going to do it. Something tells me it may be sooner than later. Speakers are being delivered in the.next 2 days. I can't wait. It's been a long time since I've had good equipment :)

As a side note, that is no longer relevant to the OP...

Don't forget that you can always make your own pre-outs by opening up the unit and patch in to the onboard pre-amp directly, then drill a couple of holes and add line-level jacks to the chassis. 30 minutes with a soldering iron and drill to solve all woes.

Those adapters aren't made for high power and the receiver will smoke them in no time. They say 80W but that's like claiming something is really good without saying why. They're only made so a car head unit can be connected to a power amp and most car head units put out a maximum of about 15W/channel. Claims for more power than that would only be possible with some kind of ClassD amp and any head unit worth a crap will have line out connectors.
