Will the Pioneer DV-47Ai play DVD+R/RW?

I've been looking everywhere on the internet trying to find out whether or not the Pioneer Elite DV-47Ai can play DVD+R, DVD+RW media. I know it says it can handle DVD-R, -RW, and a lot of times that includes +R +RW, but sometimes it doesn't. If anyone out there has one and can personally vouch that it can or cannot, it'd be much appreciated. Thanks.

That's hard to answer- in my experience you can't so much group them by type so much as brand. I had a '47A (not the newer Ai) and it plays most of them, but not all. That's pretty much the story with all of my players. My Denon is fussy with all burned DVDs, but it's very solid with JVC brand DVD+R/Ws. Go figure. My other Pioneers (DV-260, DV-563A & DV-656A) are very solid with R/Ws of the few brands I've tried, but again I haven't tried many (as they're expensive and not something I need many of). The DV-47A is solid with JVC brand R/W's, or at least mine is. Mine was an early production run, btw.

Sorry if that's not very specific. Maybe someone else can chime in with their experiences.

Is it just me or will this affair with the electronics proliferation in my house be an ongoing deal. My wife doesnt quite see it the way I do.

I have the same issue in that I bought a mod price dvd which played PAL DVD and then I bought a very mod priced Sony and it didnt play PAL DVD's. Very frustrating.

Thanks Rob for the input. I sent a letter to Pioneer's support team but who knows how long that'll take. From your experience, it sounds like it will play certain media, so it's going to be trial and error until I find a brand Pioneer likes... my how picky these things can be! I have Fujifilm +R's so we'll see if they'll work. If not, then I'll try those JVC's and then go from there.

If you don't mind me asking, what Denon player do you have?

My Denon is a DVD-2200. While it's a little tempermental with DVD-R or DVD+R, it seems to play JVC R/Ws just fine.

From Pioneer Support Team:

"Thank you for contacting Pioneer Electronics, Inc.

No this unit plays only minus disc."

Straight from the source. I wish they would've given me more reason as to why it can't, but at least they responded. Hope this helps some other people as well.
