Hello,

I have an Onkyo TX-NR737 ( http://www.onkyousa.com/Products/model.php?m=TX-NR737&class=Receiver ) that I want to connect to my PC through the MSI R7 371 Gaming 4G Graphics Card ( http://us.msi.com/product/graphics-card/R7-370-GAMING-4G.html#hero-specification ). I was planning to use the DP out to the Display Monitor and the HDMI out to the receiver so that it will get the 7.1 bandwidth that my motherboard supports.

Can I run the DP to the Display Monitor to get the 4K uhd display and then use the HDMI out to get the 7.1 audio to the Onkyo?

I seem to keep getting a lack of information in specifications. This is not my area of expertise and so i was hoping that someone with more experience with this could help.

Yes or possibly NO. It depends :)
Good news first: The spec of your video card specifies max res supported on HDMI is 4096x2160 which is higher than UHD (3840 pixels × 2160),
BUT it also states it is HDMI version 1.4a, not 2.0 required for proper secure connection for licenses UHD video.
In other works - games will probably work in UHD resolution, but with licensed uhd video (Blueray should work) - it would be a crap-shoot and most likely the answer is no.

I tell you, this overall build of a new computer and trying to include my a/v editing using studio monitors via a diBox for the front pair (stereo) of the 7.2 surround sound and the rest of the surround sound speakers would be the Onkyo SKF/C/R-590 set with a Onkyo SKW-580 sub. I will also add an 88 note midi keystation and sound module into the computer via a midi interface. I have both a 40" 1080p TV and a 28" 4K UHD Video Monitor for detail photo and video editing.

What if I use a sound card with am HDMI out to go to the Receiver? If so, what would you suggest that isn't the low end, but isn't $1000.00 other.

Thank you for your help.

Steven
