Will Onkyo except eq's

This Onkyo Receiver is a TX-SR601.....

Am I doing something wrong? It has a Tape in/out hook up but will not except the EQ..... My Onkyo TX-SV303PRO will. There is a lot of differences in the two receivers and years{15}. Any suggestions on why the sr601 will not allow an EQ?

The 601 doesn't have a tape monitor loop whereas the older sv303 probably does. I know my old SV525 had a tape monitor loop.

With the sv303 you had to press tape2/monitor to hear the sound through the equalizer, right?
