DVD player with a std. TV? And before you ask if I'm crazy let me explain. I will be getting a LCD TV fairly soon but would like to enjoy the better audio now. Am I barking up the wrong tree?

You will see a difference. I wouldn't be concerned about the audio end of it -- there are currently too many variables to be able to know if you heard a difference or now (though many think they hear a difference).

I think it's b/c I'm spoiled by having had hdtv service for a couple years and I only just got a ps3 a couple months ago....but the audio is the part I notice the most. The sub seems louder and effects more "separated". I'm not saying the sound "quality" is better, only that the perhaps the mixing jobs are better and recreate a 3d soundscape more accurately.

It is possible that you will see a difference because the mastering of the video will be different from a DVD. Different DVD releases of the same film can look considerably different from each other, because the video can be mastered differently. On a standard TV, I doubt that the Blu-Ray format would be any advantage over the DVD format.

Thread title says "WILL I SEE A DIFFERENCE"
Body of post says "WOULD LIKE TO ENJOY THE BETTER AUDIO NOW"

So... survey says:
Thread Question: No. You will not see a difference until/unless your TV is HD capable. If it's tube, LCD, projection, whatever it may be, if it's not HD, you won't see a difference between a Superbit DVD on a generic OPPO and a Blu-Ray on a PS3.
Body Question: Without knowing what type of surround system you have, I would say no if you are using TV speakers.
I would also say no if you are using anything less than 5.1. From 5.1, results vary.
