Will HKTS 65BQ/230 work with Onkyo TX-NR646?

Hi there,

First of all I was happy to see all the knowledge posted on this forum. This is the reason I actually made this post.

I have a current setup witch I am not that happy with. I use the HKTS 65BQ/230 speakers in combination with the HK BDS577. The bit I am not happy with is the HK BDS577, which I want to replace. The device seems to process all the video which comes through it and makes it stutter (3D movies) or looks like the frequency is off on the TV (tv decoder). There is no option to turn this off (contacted HK for this). So I started looking for a new AVR which is able to pass through the video when I do not want it to process it. This is where I came across the Onkyo TX-NR646 and TX-545.

Now I found out the speakers I own (HKTS 65BQ/230) are 150W/8 ohms. The TX-NR646 says the output is 170W/Ch 6ohms, it also has dynamic power for 120W/8ohms, the TX-NR545 is 115W/Ch 6ohms and dynamic power 85W 8ohms.

My question is wether my speaker setup work with these devices or will they blow up/break down? I am not sure with those W/ch outputs and ohms, but I am actually not even sure how to check these values.

If these don't fit, where do I have to look for or do you have any other recommondations?

Thanks in advance,
Mike

8 ohm speakers like these will work well with any receiver. Lower ohm speakers are harder on the amp to drive in general. The different wattage ratings can be largely ignored. Speakers are rated at what they will support. 150w is plenty and you can safely power them with much less as this is the max. Just don't turn up the volume to the point where it sounds bad and you will never have a problem. The 646 will provide enough power for the average sized room.
