hey guys heres my goal im trying to build a new home theater system from scratch using tang band speakers and a few car stereo parts (am a car audio nut) but as im new at the whole home theater thing i need some help with how to put it all together

Currently im looking to buy a 5.1 receiver to get the system started and ive been looking alot into DJ equipment as i already have a mixer board and 4 channel 1000 watt amp.

so my first question is will either of these receivers be able to power a 5.1 surround sound system

I posted on your other thread, but I'll repeat it here just in case you don't get to read the other one.

I think you should keep your home theater and DJ gear separate from one another, it will only reduce your options and increase your cost.

Technical Pro is garbage, in the same vein as Pyle Pro (in fact they're probably made in the same factory). General rule is, if the name sounds like something a child would come up with to sound cool, it's probably not all that it's cracked up to be. Same thing goes with speakers, basically avoid anything that says "digital" in the name, because it's almost certainly junk and a rip off too boot. This means, don't buy home theater speakers from guys selling them from a van claiming to work for some installer or some non-sense.

I used to be a mobile DJ too, and I never even heard of this brand...

Is this for real? This stuff indeed looks like junk -- like the "bargain basement" gear you used to find at The Wiz or Crazy Eddie's, which claimed to be awesome...thousands of watts of power...no distortion...

Car audio used to be riddled -- and still is -- with this kind of product; at any rate, I wouldn't buy, especially, that receiver...does it even mention onboard decoding for surround formats? What is it supposed to be used for?

Tang Band? Technical Pro? Come-on man.

I have a feeling you are not this dumb, but tend to think you will find some takers here. I hope you have no such luck.

On the other hand, if you genuinely want to find quality names.

Audio equipment:
Yamaha, Denon, Marantz, and Onkyo/Integra are a good place to start.

Speakers would be a larger list. The easiest tip I could give you is that if a dealer sells any of the the audio equipment listed above, just pick something they recommend within your budget.
