Hi. What features are important to you? The best bang for the buck player will depend on your answer. For example, if Netflix streaming is a must-have, then none of the players that you listed would be on the list. If you want SACD and DVD-A playback in the same player, then the Oppo is a good choice.

Let us know what features you want, and we'll help you look.

I just got the bdp 60 off amazon for 150(It shipped in a day for me actually!)

Mine is certainly not a slow loader and works very well so far. It's also very sleek. Now the controller is clunky, but it programs easily with a universal remote or an AVR remote.

For the price difference between it and a WiFi device you can buy a Roku. The Pansonic is reliable from all the reviews I read. The LGs have the bells and whistles, but you still need a cat5 cable on most of them. Except the expensive ones.

I prefer something that works well and doesn't have a load of features. I do suggest a netflix blu-ray subscription if you have time to watch a lot of movies or tv shows.

New AV guy here too and kind of overwhelmed with everything I've been reading i.e. receivers, speakers, blu-ray, etc.

I'm basically in the same boat except Netflix streaming is a definite for me. We'll be watching DVD, Blu-Ray & Netflix streaming. So far I've narrowed it down to:

LG 390 or 370 (Not sure of differences).

Oppo BDP-83 + Roku (More money than I really want to spend).

Panasonic BDP-60 or 80 + Roku.

Will someone please explain the differences between the 2 LG models? What are differences between Pana 60 & 80? Any other good recommendations?

CNET is saying the LG 370 image sucks... so that's out of the picture.

For the differences in players, here's a link for the Panasonics. Highlights that I noticed are that the 80 adds a format or two, has 7.1 analog outputs, and adds a coax digital audio output.

For the LGs, here is a decent link that describes the added features on the 390 (including being wireless).

Well the LG models are noted as unreliable in reviews I've read. The 390 is over 100 bucks more than the 370.

The 370 needs a cat 5 cable to get Internet, but has netflix.

The bdp-60 is solid with a great picture and a very slim look and feel. Add a Roku and you got a great solution IMO. But you may want IR support for your Roku. Which may make the LG the way to go.

I'm not sure if there is a real difference in picture quality.

Thanks for the links! I don't understand all the format differences in the Pannys... complete blu-ray newb.

It sounds like I might be best with one of the Pannys and a Roku or the LG-390... now which one???

If the LGs are unreliable is there a huge difference in between the Panasonics and the different formats?

Thank you so much for all of your help, it is truly appreciated!

EDIT: If it matters I'll be using this in my soon to be 5.1 system.

Get the Panasonic.

Unless you are certain you don't care for SACD/DVDA, where Oppo is the choice. Looks like movies only here.

If you will have a receiver that handles audio via HDMI, I don't think you'll care for the BD80.

Get the BD60, and put the savings into the beginnings of your bluray library.

Honestly don't know anything about SACD/DVDA and most likely we'll only use it for movies so the Panasonic sounds like the way to go and a Roku for Netflix.

Don't have a receiver yet... that's next on the list. So far I've got the plasma and regular DVD. I was gonna get blu ray first and then go for a receiver and 5.1 system... slowly getting there! :D
