Will AVR3805 have problems with 4 ohm speakers?

I'm looking at buying the Denon AVR3805, and am also considering the Aperion 7.1 surround sound system, with the tower main speakers that have the built-in 8in subs. These are 4 ohm, and I'm wondering if I'll have problems with this. Obviously, I'm not very smart in this area, and am trying to learn all I can before I buy. Any help would be appreciated.

The manual clearly states that 4 ohm is OK, however it may run hot and shut down if it is not ventilated properly. Clearly, 6 or 8 ohm is safer but Denon does claim that 4 ohm will work.

Well cutter you are asking the right questions remember a 4 ohm speaker as with all speakers while been driven by an amp may go down further 2-3 ohms in some cases also it helps to check out the speakers sensitivity express in dB for e.*. a speaker which has 87dB will be more taxing on a amp compared to a reading of say 93dB so for every 3dB you double your power my speakers are 96dB @6 ohms and its sweet with the Denon 3805 :p

No problems driving RBH Sound 1266-LSEs at 4-ohms for a couple months now. Review is completed and being peer reviewed prior to publication this week.

Thanks everyone!

Thank you for all the advice-- it helped clear up things for me. I purchased my Denon 3805 yesterday, and I'm excited to see what it can do!

Hi Cutter,

I just wanted to clarify that the subwoofers in the power towers are 4 ohm but they are driven by the built-in amplifier so you don't need to be concerned with the 4 ohm rating. The 5.25" mid woofer and 1" tweeter are driven by your amp and they have a 6-8 ohm rating.

Then Denon 3805 will drive the towers beautifully. We have a ton of customers that use the Denon products including me. I have an older Denon 3300 driving my Aperion 5.1-12 system and it works great.

Let us know if you have any questions.
