Will a curtain help room acoustics?

This is probably a dumb idea but I figure I may as well ask to see what yall think. I have a fair sized (16'x14') living room (which is where my speaker setup is located) that has a 10 foot wide opening to a fair sized (20'x12') kitchen. I was thinking about the effect of hanging a sort of curtain that could be pulled closed across the opening would have on the room acoustics? Obviously it would have to be a sort of material that is not very breathable right? Do you think this would be at all beneficial? If not do yall have any other ideas for ways to isolate the living room aside from building a wall?;)

It would have to be a very thick curtain. Even then, i guess that would only partially affect higher frequencies. The bass would just get through.
