Why?????????????????????????????????????

Why is the attachment size limited to 100kb when any picture from any digital camera is at least 500kb. I'm probably not the only one who has had problems with this and I think that something should be done about this so that we all don't have to change the size of our pictures, which would probably promote more people to post pics of their system. I know that I dont have the time to change every one of my pics to conform with your settings.

It seems a sensible limit to me.
It only takes a few seconds to load a pic into a photo editor and save it with a higher compression ratio.
Not everyone has a fast connection, so posting a huge picture can cause problems for them.
The full quality pictures on my camera are about 2.5 megabytes - it would be absurd to post them as they are! :)

You can also just set up a photo gallery on one of the hundreds of free photo sites like Photobucket and post a link.

Denied. :) Allowing that convenience would cost us a lot of money. You have to multiply by our number of readers to understand why we do that. Allowing larger file size limits like that could take down one of our servers under certain circumstances.

I run a club web page, and one member dumped a DVD full of photos. I LOVE fireworks! It allowed me to convert the entire DVD to a common photo size, and reduce each picture from 3-4 MB down to a high resolution of approx 150K. Showed several people the two photos, there wasn't a single person that could see the difference.

In a related rant, I'm a little curious why I can't load any of my avatars that I use on every other forum on the internet I'm on because of whatever the size limit is here. :(

Just resize them.

Just.

That would mean I'd have to get a graphics program, learn how to use it, figure out what exactly 64 x 64 pixels means (since my avatars are already smaller than the 19.5kb requirement), etc. etc. etc... ;)

I'd suggest that you...*ahem* "Acquire" a copy of photoshop. It isn't that hard to figure out.

If you have a digital camera, the software that was bundled with the camera should be able to perform the compression and resizing for you.

If not, Microsoft's Office Picture Manager is bundled (FREE) with many Office Suites and is more than sufficient for hobbiest to compress a few pictures to share with friends on this forum.

Picture size (quality) is not as critical for web viewing as many people suspect.

A while back I downloaded some pics from a friends vacation. The 75kb pics were fine for webviewing. No, the 75kb was not as detailed as the 6mb pics that he forgot to compress before sending them to me, but all in all, I would rather see a 75kb pic of his wife than the 6mb pic.

By the way I am using a 19" LCD screen.

An unkind thing to say though! ;)

There are lots of freeware resizers available. Some of the will resize a whole folder of pics with a couple of clicks.

How does one "acquire" a copy of Photoshop? That's like a $600 program.

And I don't have a digital camera, I'm still back in the film age. (mea culpa! I realized that you were probably talking to the thread starter, soniceuphoria. Nevermind.)

And my copy of Office 97 doesn't have any graphics programs in it.

Shinerman, checked and will do, thanks.

Well, to "acquire" photoshop, you just have to know the right people. If you know the right people, it's really easy to get free 1's and 0's that, when you get 'em all together, end up making a really cool program! In terms of availability, Adobe programs are probably the easiest to "acquire".

Edit: Wow...I sound like a drug dealer or something.

Well, there is the full blown professional version of Photoshop which is called CS and the prior version 7.0 which I use. Then, there is the scalled down version called, I think, Elements or something like that. These can be had for under $100 or so. There is also GIMP software that is a free download and is basically a copy of Photoshop. Many people use this instead of PS. Here is a link,

No it ain't. You haven't seen his wife. I am stout. He is bigger. And she outweighs the both of us guys put together. Hey, I may like curves, but I do believe that needing 3 arms to wrap around the babe is a bit to much curves.
