The wikipedia link explains what it does, and does not involve videos. Of course, seeing it in action makes it clearer, which is why I also included two video links, one of which was a demo device, and the other a consumer product.

I remember it now. No surprise it didn't catch on. Nobody wanted to spend that kind of money for "cassettes." I will say that the Nakamichi cassette decks were a cut above the others. They sounded a little less dark and muddy that the average dolby recording. No question that a properly dubbed dolby cassette recording is HiFi as well. Perhaps not so much as the vinyl LP but pretty close.
