Why does Yamaha manual setup result in loss of onscreen image?

Specifically, I'm referring to the Yamaha RX-V2400. When I enter into the manual setup, the TV always goes black and says "no signal". Is there any way to keep make adjustments without interfering with the program on the TV?

Also, can anyone answer this: Does the OSD on the Yamaha RX-V2500 work through all video channels?

Try composite video cable if you don't try yet

My guess is that the Yamaha doesn't do OSD over component. Try S-video or composite for your OSD.
