Why Can't Receivers have a keyboard input?

With everything receivers can do now-a--days, why isn't there an keyboard connection or RS-232 so that you can actually type in the names of tracks when you record a DVD or change the name of an input, instead of scrolling through the menu and letters on a remote?

There are quite a few receivers that have rs-232 on the back for software updates, configuration, and control.

EDIT: But I do agree with you on the keyboard input. Why not make the receiver have a whole HTPC built in? But, because of cost, that would be on high-end models only.

Thats what a media center is for!!! The all in ones are on the horizon. I think right now they would be way too expensive and the market would be way too small to make it cost effective for companies to produce. Also, the more stuff they cram into a receiver the more problems it would have. Some of the components would unfortunately suffer in quality as well.

What are the possibilities and limitations of the rs 232 port?

That's what Microsoft has been trying to do for years...and that's what they're after with the XB-360 IMO.

What do you call a receiver with a keyboard?

A computer! ;)

On the serious side, it would be a cool idea. It would make life a whole lot simpler to have an interface that looked like the Yamaha Receiver Editor pop up on the screen when you plugged in a keyboard. Lets all add this to our Christmas wish lists! :D

How about "Why can't a receiver serve me a nice cold pint of Guinness?" :D

It's good stuff. We have one Irish Pub in the area that won an award for "Best draught Guinness" in our area, and it's true, so that's where we go to drink :D

I lived in Mountain View for 2 years while I was on assignment at Netscape and I remember an Irish pub we used to go to for lunch but I can't recall the name. Shepherds Pie and Guiness makes a great lunch. :)

It was in the little downtown area where there is basically one street with stores and restaurants on each side. One chinese restaurant I remember there was called Tien Foo or something like that (we called it Ten Four). Does that ring a bell? It was either Sunnyvale or Santa Clara that I am thinking about.

.....a buildup of yellow stomach bile brings an involuntary expulsion, which you've got to stand up, to stop, am I correct?.......condition usually brought on by three six-packs of tall-boys......the subject being relieved of said yellow stomach bile is usually evidenced by red tile-prints on the knees....great subject and thread, haha......

.....I hate the slop.......people juiced up drive real great....I know moderation is the key, but that is dependent on life-conditions, ain't it?......
