Inspired by the ongoing subwoofer wars, and especially by a post by RMK! where he says that jakeman is his inspiration when it comes to subwoofers I thought we all should tell who is our Guru.

Maybe should we start different subwoofer religions, and declare full on jihad?

Anyway, my Guru is Ed Mullen. Objective, scientific and more often then not he hears the same things as me.

Mark Seaton!

His posts are always informitive, level headed and very much the voice of reason. He is also the geeky guy that can't get enough of this stuff, and is so willing to share his knowladge. I've never seen him put a toe in the ugly waters. Impressive for someone his age (and mine). I got the pleasure of meeting him once. He really was the girl in the pretty dress that everyone wanted to talk to.

So far we have Mullenism, and Seatonology, I don't think those two schools of thought are to far apart?

Just remember, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam all have a common root. :)

It would be interesting if we could discover what common ground the different subwoofer schools have. "Thou shalt not distort"? :)

Add me as a "Beardenist" and a "Yate-ist!! :p

Deon Bearden and Yates are some of the biggest contributors in this arena, and I have learned much from them. Interestingly, they are also some of the most humble and level headed people around.....Deon Bearden spent countless emails and IM's with me discussing design pros/cons, and alwyas there to answer questions, no matter how idiotic it may have seen, always with a degree of respect and dignity.

I also have learned a lot from the views of Peter Marcks and Ed Mullen, both different in opinion, but interestingly the debates sparked between them in the past had some of the most valuable information in my learning process.

what the heck do I know anyways?! I'm just a young whipper snapper trying to find my way...:D

No! No! No!

Mark is the man, and if you guys can't see that, you're too stupid to be using a computer!

:) Just kidding. All of the above are great posters. I've often thought it would be great to have a forum dedicated to some of them just answering our questions. You know, where we're allowed to post a question and only listen to thier response, no back and forth and back again.

Sherv,
Where does Deon hang? I don't think I've ever seen his posts.

I enjoy Ed's reviews. Precise, to the point, and doesn't have favorites.

dont know if you know, but he left Klipsch, etc, and is now partner with John Janowitz over at AE Speakers.... he rarely posts at AVS as he spends most of his free time designing drivers (not just sub drivers, but speaker drivers as well). You can get a hold of him at DIYsubwoofers.org once in a while, or better yet, IM or email on occasion

While I am not in complete agreement with the "favorites" part of your comment, I read and respect Ed's reviews. I don't pretend to have a lot of technical knowledge regarding subwoofers, nor do I have a "guru." but when Ed, Mark Seaton, Bossobass, and Craig speak, I listen.

Mostly over at http://www.aespeakers.com/phpbb2/

these days. He and John Janowitz are now the prime movers behind Acoustic Elegance.

I owe many thanks to Deon, John, Tom Danley, Mark Seaton, Ed M, Jack Gilvey,ThomasW, R. Buszka, Dan Wiggins, plus others that I'm forgetting for their sharing knowledge and posting on subwoofer and speaker design and measurement techniques.

Its been fun also reading posts and gaining knowledge from Ilkka, Steve Callas, Ryan, Shervin, Steve, Collo, Bosso, Simon, Kyle, Ron S, Tom V and many others for this hobby. Sorry if I'm forgetting those who deserve mention.

Regards,
Bob

Yeah, all those guys posts are a must read, along with Bruce Hall, who I've had the pleasure to meet and chat with. But...I have to admit, there's only so much SW knowledge I choose to retain. There comes a point when performance over theory comes into play and there are only so many options I have to check out performance and how deeply I'm willing to delve into optimization.

If the car runs good and doesn't keep costing me money, it's a great car. I don't really care which brand it is or what's better. Whether it costs $60K (I've had a couple) or a used $20K (which I now own). Oops, I'm starting a hi-jack...

Three way tie in no particular order-

Bosso- PASSION, knowledge, plays bass, DIYer and cool hair. ;)
Craigsub- changed my whole attitude about LISTENING. Walks the walk.
Ed Mullen- Class act, no two ways about it.
