Wholesale AV - Authorized retailer?

Greetings. I'm looking to purchase a Yamaha RX-V659. Now that the RX-V661 is out, the price on the 659's are dropping fast.

My local tweeter is selling the 659 for $399. They are an authorized retailer and it would come with a warranty, etc.

Amazon.com has the 659 for sale through "Wholesale AV" for $299. Obviously a much better price. But I couldn't find any info on Wholesale AV. Are they an authorized retailer? Would the unit come with full warranty, etc. How do I make sure it's not a refurbished unit?

Any info is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I know nothing about them. Has anyone pointed you to reseller ratings?

Interesting...I just found the phone number for Wholesale AV and called them. They said they were an authorized retailer and the Yamaha receivers they sell come with 5 year manufacturer's warranty. But the link posted above to the authorized on-line dealers from Yamaha did not list them.

I still may purchase through them as the 659 is $100 cheaper than anywhere else.

They currently have the HTR-5960 which is the same receiver as the 659 for
$319.00. They are one of the few actual authorized on-line Yamaha dealers.
They have the same unit in silver for 299.00. I've dealt with these guys before. They're pretty reputable.

Yeah, that's what most of these guys will say. Call 800-492-6242. This is
Yamaha's customer service number. If you don't believe the list Yamaha has on their site, showing who they have authorized to sell their product, is up to date, an actual person at Yamaha should be able to confirm it. I would strongly recommend not buying a Yamaha receiver from a non-authorized dealer. They will not cover warranty repairs unless the product was purchased from an authorized dealer.

Wow. I didn't know the RX-V659 was the same receiver as the HTR-5960. I had read previous discussions on the difference between the HTR series and the RX-V series. If I remember properly, the only difference was one line is sold in big box stores and the other is sold in smaller boutique retail shops.

I definitely want to buy from an authorized retailer.

Go onto Yamaha's website and pull both of these units up. The ONLY thing I could see that is different is under the 659, it says "Burr-Brown DAC's" for all channels. It doesn't say that for the 5960, BUT, I'm willing to bet that the 5960 has the same DAC's as the 659, they just failed to mention it.
