I am going to be going through a house addation next spring and wanted to put in a whole house surge protector when they are changing out the box. Does anyone have any suggestions on one?

Technically, your house DOES have surge protection with a breaker box. That's the whole point ;-)

The main breaker is usually 100 or 200amps (depending on the year/area of your house), and each leg of the breaker is usually on a 15/20/30 amp breaker. That right there could stop a big power surge coming in from the power grid.

I did a sizable write-up on breakers/surge protectors here. :)

If I were you, I'd look to isolating your circuits more. An example would be a dedicated 15/20 amp circuit for your AV rack, not just using the same circuit that is already feeding every other outlet & lighting in the room.
