I have a couple extra dual mono amps sitting around. I'm looking for an inexpensive way to throw a couple tens in my system. I have a Velodyne 18" powered sub that works great for fill playing music but I want something that is going to give me a clean thump and maybe help a little with mid bass. Tell me if I'm going down the wrong road trying to power 10's on my own or should I just buy a couple powered 10's and go that way??

How much power do the amps have? You can get passive SVS cylinders for a good price (in the US).

Check them out. :)

You have an 18" Velo and that is not enough? Subs are not designed for mid bass but then I am not sure what you really mean by mid bass.

What are your main speakers? Isn't that reproduce mid bass for you? Not really sure your overall intentions here.

I guess what I meant to say is I want more punch. The 18" give plenty of bass but no punch like a pair of tens would. I have a couple proton D1200's that pack plenty of power. I have good bass drum response in my system but I want better fill on the tom tom's.

I'm using two pairs of ESS AMT 4 monitors. Basically they have the heil transformer and a 10" driver in each one. If any of you are familiar with the ESS stuff then you know how clean they are but they are not known for their bass. Don't get me wrong my system sounds good but I am a mid spectrum junky. Am I looking in the wrong place for what I'm trying to accomplish?

Gee...this sounds strangely familiar...

Do a search on the forum for "Cannons" or "Small Cannons" for about a bazillion threads on this. Mulester7, the one who started the whole thing, ended up purchasing some Infinity 10" drivers to build boxes for.

Use for monoblock amps

How about hooking your monoblocks up to a couple of butt-kickers. You will definately be able to feel the bass.

might be a dumb question but what are butt kickers?

They are tactile transducers. Basically a motor structure with no speaker cone. It vibrates based on frequency giving you the feel of bass when mounted to your couch, chair etc... without the sound. They're quite effective actually. Like these: http://www.aurasound.com/ Click on products -> bass shakers.

SVS's passive subs are pretty darn amazing, and you can pick up a decent plate amp pretty cheap. Problem is, there is no 10" passive cylinder.

What is your crossover set at? With 10" drivers in your mains and an 18" sub there is no reason you should not be getting enough "punch" from your system. Your crossover could probably set down to the 40hz range. assuming you have a nice dynamic amplifier running your mains, rears and center, it should give you all you want and more.

WOW, I read the first 3 post and came to that same exact conclusion.

For o/p, I would recommend taking jaxvon's advice on this. He is serious.
Actually there are at least 2 seperate threads on this.
I think the other one about the small cannons - Mulester started the thread with I need a sealed box.
