If the htr is only a little less, then definately go with the 2500, the 5890 is a toned down 1500 (few less goodies).

milcol,

I agree, if its only a small difference, or even several hundred dollars I would take the 2500. It's a great receiver. If its the 2500 you saw for $600, jump on it, you won't be sorry.

It's a good possibilty that the reason the HTR is only slighty less is because it has the Yamaha warranty. Where as the RXV 2500, if that $600 is an internet price, is without the warranty. The RXV series is generally not meant for online sales.
I'm not preaching the need for a Yamaha warranty but it should always be a consideration when dropping that kind of money.
The RXV2500 is a much better reciever than the RXV1500/HTR5890, but depending on the intended application and needs of it's buyer it can be overkill.

NomoSony is right on the money. However, I would go a step farther and tell you that buying from an unauthorized Internet dealer is an iffy proposition over and above the lack of a factory warranty. Not all are dishonest but some have been known to advertise their wares as new but ship used, damaged, repaired and even counterfeit units.

Where to buy?

I was looking to buy the 2500 and was also wondering where the best place would be to purchase it. I would like to have a warranty with it and are the extended warranties you can buy worth getting?

Thanks for the help.

Yamaha RXV2500

I bought the 2500 at the Military Exchange,so it came with full warranty now thinking of speakers maybe just get the front and center for now and see how it works out, the Polk CSi5 Center and RTI4 fronts seem to be what would suit the situation for now,any comments on the speakers
