Ok I'm looking for advice....I have a Yamaha RX-V2600 receiver and am in need of a new DVD player. I'm looking at the Yamaha DVD-S1700 and the DVD-C950. I haven't seen too many reviews on the 1700 and I'm not sure if I'm too impressed with the reviews I've seen on the 950...I know some people many be a little more anal then I am. Anyways, any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have a 2600 as well and opted for the DVD S-2700. I think the 1700 will be great for DVD material but if you plan to use it for CDs the 2700 is definitely the better option since the build quality delivers superb audio.

Otherwise both are upscaling to 1080p so visually they should not be too different. Again, audiowise for movies the 2700 is better.

So are you going HDMI into your 2600 or direct to your TV? I was looking at getting the 950 only because of the 2600 limitations (1080i) HDMI. My Mitsu is 1080p so I thought about going directly to my TV with the 1700 since I have 2 HDMI inputs but I wasn't sure if I could go audio out of the 1700 to my receiver while also using the HDMI output. I looked at the 2700 but I don't want to spend that kind of cash for it.

You can do both: HDMI to the TV and coaxial or optical out from the 1700 to the receiver. I have no lip sync issues using this combination.

If you want to take advantage of the dvd-s2700 superb audio you have to use it's analog output, wich will give you no sound quality improvement over the dvd-s 1700 if you watch a dvd in 5.1

Well I bought the 1700. We'll see how it works. Thanks for all your input.
