I'm unfamiliar with the Mits, but there are a good number of regulars here who enjoy them. The Sammy has decent dark levels, for a DLP RPTV, but of course it doesn't have the finer gradations you would see in a plasma.

The one particular thing that drives me nuts about the Sammy is where they put the IR sensor. Smack dab in the middle so that your center speaker would block the signal.

However, buy a URC RF20 remote + blaster for $80, then just run a wire. If willing to spend this $80, then no need to concern yourself with the poor choice of IR sensor placement.

there are a GREAT MANY people, on various forums. that believe the dlp's are as good, if not better, than lcd. from my little experience with them, i would say they are about the same. DPL = best bang for buck. though they do have issues.

You have it narrowed down between two top notch DLPs and a cheesy LCD. I would definitely prefer a newer DLP like the ones you mentioned if those were my only options. I actually prefer their picture more than any LCD, price & value asside. The only downside to them is the cost of bulbs every so many years and the bling factor of a flat TV. You also won't get the viewing angle of a flat panel (they have improved a lot in recent years). The DLPs you are looking at are top notch. Also consider a 58'' Panasonic Plasma.

Ivè owned the Diamond line from mitsu, and imo bests both of the other displays. Accurate color adjustments.

It all depends on your expectations.

I don't know why one modern LCD would be significantly better for gaming than another. The people who raved this might be comparing it to older LCDs with a slower response time and a struggling processor with no game mode. Regardless, the picture has all the same characteristics of most mid-level LCDs. Certainly not as good as a Samsung LN**A550 LCD. Going 60'' or above for $3000 or less really limits your options to either a fantastic DLP or an ok Sharp. You can see it at your local stores. Maybe you'll love it.

I would personally buy a Panasonic TH-58PZ800U. They absolutely dominate in that price class of $2,500.. Are you sitting more than 15'' away? 58'' in a normal living room is still HUGE.

The Samsung DLP doesn't have a bulb, it uses an LED. I've got the 61" version and am very happy with it.

Ditto that for me. You may want to consider that off angle viewing may be an issue; depending on your seating. However, you have to be pretty far to the side to see a real effect. Viewing from too low seems to exagerate this, if you like to lay on the floor you would have to have a low stand. Otherwise, this TV (IMO) great.

Good luck, there is a lot of good stuff out there - have fun!!

Help!!

What kind of light do you have in your viewing room? If you don't have big windows which bring in light and reflection, consider going with a Plasma. I'm surprised nobody has recommended a Pioneer.

IMO, I think you'd be happier in the long run with the LCD or Plasma Flat Panel. Especially with the Kuro's going on sale, perfect opportunity to capture a great deal.

The DLP bulbs seldomly last as long as advertised and the darn thing is just BIG compared to a flat panel.

The viewing angle gets really really annoying too.

FWIW, I bought my Kuro simply because I was sick of the maintenance of my HLN617W. 5 years ago, the DLP was $4k, I was told (and read) that DLP was best bang for buck. Right out of the box, I was greeted with a stuck pixel. After that was "repaired", I had to deal with a mis-aligned screen. Less than a year into it, the bulb burned out. In the second year, the colorwheel went. At the end of that year, I was in the market for bulb #3. This past Christmas, the colorwheel shattered once again, and I pretty much wrote anything that has moving parts off the list of future TVs. When we move next month, it's going in the basement with a new colorwheel, and the kids can play their video games on it. That $4k TV that was relatively maintenance free has cost me about as much as it's worth now in new parts.

I lucked out with the Kuro 5020FD. It was a day-old display model that I got because I complained that BB had no other TVs in stock. I walked out with it for $1900. I would have liked the 111, but I couldn't pass up a deal of $1500 off.

I have a dlp tv and I prefer the picture over an LCD or plasma set...the viewing angles in my room are a null point as is there is no bad seat in the house. I have had no problems with mine after one year of ownership. I got a Sony Bravia 46" for $998 in Feb of '08. It's been a great TV and the HD content looks great on it.

A good deal of light. Window is on south side so the sunlight comes in.
