Hello Forum,
I recently bought an Emotiva XD-2 DAC, mostly to integrate my ipod as a source, but that's another conversation. Lately I've been mostly using my 400-CD Sony player as a source, and using either vintage Toshiba amps, or a Sony STR GX900ES receiver for power. (never as home theater, music only)
When I use both power sources Toshibas and the Sony, volumes get crazy. I should point out I am trying to fill the 3-room first floor of my small house with sound...and not be locked into the sweet spot, though I do enjoy that too.
By "crazy" I mean that with the Toshiba's, the XD-2 is the volume control (2 Epicure M202's speakers), with the other speakers (Epicure 400's) I'm using the Sony's volume control as the secondary option...meaning the XD is the first, the Sony the second...
Until I can get a powerful multi channel amp, right now, I need to figure this out. Should I set the XD volume at 50% and go from there? 75%? At 50%, when going through the Toshiba's gets very very loud on the smaller Epicures, while not having the juice to push the 400's through the Sony...the 400's spec as 200 watts conservatively from the factory...my sense is they need more power?
In short, which volume do you use when you have 2 options?
Thanks,
Onward and upward,
Puff
