I am looking at 3 different receivers for my system.I plan on a 5 channel outlaw amp, so I won't be using the receiver to power any of the speakers.I am looking at a yamaha htr5990, a onkyo 803 and a denon 3805.I want to cut down on cost as much as possible, but out of these 3, any recomendations?I have never listen to a yamaha, but have heard the other two. Any help please

Receiver options

If you don't need HDMI switching (The denon and Onkyo you listed don't have it) then look for the Yamaha RX-V1500 or 2500. Both will work great as a pre-pro and the 1500 is a higher end version of the HTR-5890. These models run about $5-600 new from authorized dealers or $4-500 refurbished from ubid.

There is always the matching Outlaw pre-pro, but I think the Yamaha or Denon will give you more features for the money.

HDMI switching

The video quality of component and HDMI is comparable and there are never any compatibility issues with component video.
In my opinion, the $5-600 price difference between the Yamaha RX-V2600 (w/ HDMI) and the Yamaha RX-V2500 (without HDMI) would be better spent on speakers, better display, outboard amplifier, or other HT components.

Also, if you only have one HDMI source, you can directly connect it to the TV.
