I am looking at getting me a new sub very soon and was wanting to get some opinions or thoughts as to which one would be better for me. Right now I have my system set up in my living room ( maybe here for about 2 years) that is roughly 14x14 with 10 foot ceilings. I like the SVS subs but can't decide if I want the box or cylinder. I think I am leaning more towards the cylinder though. What do you think? Also, which one should I go with, the 20-39 pci, 20-39 pci plus, pb12 isd, or the pb12 plus. Are the drivers that much different and will there be that much change in quality. I know each one has there own differences but, I would like to hear what any of you SVS owners have to say, good or bad about them. Right now I have the psw505 sub from polk audio and it seems to hit pretty good. Will there be a major difference between this sub and an SVS?
BTW, I already have the WAF approval to go ahead :D . I can't believe she said get whichever would sound better  !

PB-12+ It will embarras your 505, IMO. I have a PB-10 in a much larger room than that and it does an excellent job already. I wanted a bit more rumble than the PB-10 has, but for the price and size, it's pretty amazing. I have heard the PB-12 in a slightly larger room, and it has a bit more rumble down low, but more or less similar output in it's higher range. I've also heard the 25-31PCi in an even larger room, and it seemed to have more output than the PB-10 to me, about that of the PB-12, but SVS said I'd need to move up to the 20-39PC Plus or PB-12/2 to get a substantial gain over the PB-10.

Hehe, better check the dimensions, because the PB-12 is already pretty good size, but they get much better WAF in the nice finishes.

Perfectly square rooms can be problematic for good bass too. Are you looking for ridiculous amounts of bass or just "a lot"?

Well (naturally) here is a vote for the 20-39PCi. I recently bought one, so I could be considered to still be in the honeymoon period, but the power and quality of the sound is fantastic. SVS themselves will tell you about the comparative pros and cons of the boxes versus the cylinder subs. What did it for me was the fact that the design of the cylinders are more efficient, allowing for a lower price point for the same performance from a box, and that I could get lower extension for the money spent. Oh, and the fact that I was able to achieve the required WAF threshold by getting her approval of the cylinder after only two (or four) cosmopolitans :)

The cylinder is unquestionably the better value (in the range of products you are considering), independent of esthetics. I like the look of the cylinder - it fits very well into a corner. As always, YMMV.

The good news? No matter what your decision, you are very likely going to be one happy camper, very soon. Enjoy!

Cheers,
Matty K.

It Don't Matter None

I bought the box because I have a 4-year old monster ... er, I mean child at home and I didn't want him climbing up the cylinder or toppling it over. He can climb on the box and even sit on it, and I'm not worried.

Whichever model you choose, you can be guaranteed of two things:

1. It will be bigger than you figured. Much bigger.

2. The sound will be fantastic.

I'm not an SVS owner but I do have a quick suggestion. Just ask SVS. They'll tell you if one would be a better fit for your room. They have a really helpful/knowledgable staff that according to all reports will not try to over sell you. Plus I think that if you go to the site they have a walkthrough that when you fill your room dimensions they get back with what sub will be best for you.

I've already said this about a dozen times but once more can't hurt. I hope that SVS gets a distributer for up here in Canada.
