Hello all ..... Well if you had to choose between the Velodyne DD15 or the Velodyne DLS5000R which would you get? I am looking to buy 2 of whichever is best for my system.

My main speakers are the Klipsch RF-7 - I have one DD-15 but honestly the Klipsch drown it. Should I get the DLS5000R ?

Any help is appreciated.

i remember one guy on AVS also having Klipsch speakers return a DD18 because it couldn't keep up with this Klipsch's. if you ask Curt C of Velodyne, he would also recommend the Velodyne DLS-5000R as well.

but if we are talking about this much budget, I would recommend DUAL SVS PB13 Ultras instead, for the price of ONE DD15

What is the difference between a class A or a cladd D amp in a subwoofer?

Thanks for your help eveyone ... this is a GREAT website !!!

I am asking because I am considering the DLS5000R sub over my DD-15 sub.

in terms of sound quality, there is no difference.

in terms of weight, efficiency, power consumption, size ... the class D amp is smaller, lighter, more efficient therefore eats up less electricity.

btw, I have merged your two threads.

What are you looking to gain here...

Power to match the extremely efficient Klipsch......?

What is the size of your room...?

Mike's suggestion of getting a pair of Ultra 13's isn't bad, they might trump dual DD-15's in tuning flexiblilty, SPL, linearity, and possibly SQ.

On the other hand, with the DD series, you have a built in EQ, which adds to the ability to smooth out room responses. I find that to be a priceless piece of equipment. You could also get an outboard SMS-1 to do the same thing.

If you were to sell the DD-15, you could possibly buy dual SVS Ultra 13's and a SMS-1 for close to the same price of adding a second DD-15...

Hard decision...

well, not really a hard decision ... i would actually say it was a very easy decision.

use the money for a new DD15 and sell the old one to buy an SMS-1 and quad PB13 Ultras :)

but like i said, even the DD18 (which has at least 30% more output than the DD15 IIRC) couldn't keep up with the Klipsch mains for this other guy :)

The SMS-1 can only EQ 3 subs. Fail.

option 1: balanced output to the balanced input on the PB13 Ultra. FTW!

option 2: y splitter. FTW!

:D

my room is 18 x 26 feet. The ceiling is 9 ft 4 inches. Its about 5000 sq ft in volume.

I spoke to curt and he sis recommend the velodyn dls5000r sub ( a pair of them). When I look at the price ... it seems to good to be true! Am I wrong here? I can actually buy 2 of these for 1200 bucks.

I will say I am dissapointed with my DD-15 (not to mention I am sending the amp out to get repaired after attempting to troubleshoot it with curt. I have had this sub for 7 months ... NEVER crancked i up because I was too busy building my theater. I bought it new from a secondary vendor for 2100.00

mad? you bet I am .... for the reputation that velodyne has .... this is a nightmare!!! I miss my M&K - I wish i never sold it!

i have a DD18 and DUAL DLS-5000R's. and i am recommending/guaranteeing that the SVS PB13 Ultra will trounce ANY and ALL velodyne subwoofers - even those three together.

do yourself a favor:

i don't like sounding like a fanboy, but it's that good. two third party tests have proven so as well.

2 will cost the same as one brand new DD15 or DD18 (depending on your discount)

or you can start with ONE PB13 Ultra + SMS-1

2 of the SVS's Ultra 13's would have scary output in that size room...

I have dual Plus/2's in a room 8200 cu ft, and the output is incredible, when they are tuned at 20hz, they provide waves of bass that are unimaginable by most people...

The Ultras offer a little cleaner bass then the Plus/2's....
