The contestants:

SVS PB12/plus 2

or 2 each of:

HSU VTF-3 MK 2

Dayton Titanic 15" MKIII

Anyone know of measurements done on the Dayton?

Since you mentioned the Dayton, you might want to think about a different driver (unless you're going for the ultra-high output one). I'm talking about the Bully 15". Lower distortion measurements. Check it out:

You went to SVS and if I remember you auditioned that sub? You know what that will do then, it is a known quantity, unless you also auditioned the others. If you can afford it, must as you brought it up, go for it. ;)

I would go SVS or HSU, can't speak from hearing, but what others have said.

Personally, SVS. I loveeeeee that subwoofer.

Curious as to why you brought it up. I thought you were sold on SVS for good and Cadence for cheap. Are you seriously looking at these?

My suggestion is a Mirage BPS-400. They can be a little difficult to track down, but they are totally worth it. They're 110lb. monsters capable of 125db @ 18hz, but still fast enough to be good with music, unlike the Def Tech supercubes.

Velodyne DD-12s are also fantastic. I really dont like subs larger than 12", unless they are servo controlled like the big Paradigm. 18" is just dumb.

Two of the VTF 3's mated with those Klipsch RF7's would be a scary combo IMO. Two subs have always sounded better to me. Especially in bigger rooms with proper set up.

Those Klipsch are really special especially with a top notch amp driving them.

All the DD series are digital servo controlled. I have the DD15 :D amazing power and control. The entire DD series are among the most accurate subs around. And I doubt DD18 owners think their sub is dumb.

cheers :)

Yes, I did go to SVS, and yes I do like their product. The Dayton intrigues me. And I’ve heard a bunch of good things about the HSU. The HSU is only 350w, one of the things that make me leery about it. I actually thought about getting 4 of the cadence, but the setup would be impossible.

I have no set budget, although I'd like to get the best value, but I don't want to go crazy. I'd prob like to keep it down to under 2k for 2 units. I could go more, but would rather not.

I found this over at AVS forum. This is the 10" titanic. The problem is that it is a sealed sub. I don't think its for me. I am going to need the low end. This sub is perfect for someone with smaller speakers that listens to a lot of music. The 12 and 15 titanic are going to have a similar slope too.

Mac,

My STF-3 has "only" 300w. But it's set to 9 o'clock on the gain dial in a huge room (22x27xvaulted). I couldn't possibly use all its power. Further, it tracks to 20Hz in-room @-3db. There is more spl than I can legally use in a rural neighborhood. ;)

I've heard such good things about the SVS, that I almost went that route. BUT...the Hsu people gave me GREAT service and personal treatment, have a smaller and less expensive product (that is more than adequate for 99% of possible applications), and by all reports is 'tighter' or more musical than its counterparts. (Even my little STF-1 was wonderful...as will Jaxvon attest, as well.) When I temporarily had two STF-3's running, the depth, power, and crispness of bass was absolutely stunning. One day, I'll be able to afford another.

I know you've seen and heard most of the SVS's. I hope you give yourself the benefit of hearing the others that intrigue you, as well.

Yes, I agree. I'd like to find some measurements on the HSU.

This is a big room im trying to fill. I also like a ton of deep bass ~25 and lower. My homebuilt that I'm using now measures flat to 17Hz. The problem is I used just ok drivers, and can't get the spl out of it. I am too busy to build a couple more.

You'll get that 17Hz with either of the SVS or Hsu setups you mentioned, plus tons of SPLs. Once you can get them dialed in, I think you'll prefer the dual setup over the single for pure power and crispness.

That's why I am now thinking about 2 pb12 ISD's or Plus
