Which Sub? SPL-800R, SPL-1000R, Dominator D-12, or ULW-10 ?

I am trying to find a small footprint sub, that is great for music, but would also be good for HT.

Current setup:
Denon 4306
Fronts: KEF IQ5's
Center: KEF IQ6c
Rears: KEF IQ1's

Room size:
11 X 25 X 7 about 2000 Sq feet.

So I am trying to decide between SPL-800R, Dominator DD12, and the
ULW-10. I need to have a small foot print for WAF, and I am looking for a muscial sub, since the KEF IQ5's only go to 43HZ.

I have heard both the SPL-800R and SPL-1000R, I liked the 1000R the best but not sure if I can justify another 300$. So I was wondering about other lower cost options such as the DD12 for 500, and the ULW-10 for 500.

Has anyone heard these other subs, and will they have a comparable performace to the velodyne's for about 1/2 the price?

Thanks,

Dan

This isn't on your list + they're sold out for quite some time but I thought it's worth a mention, twin x-subs. This is what I have running with my rs550s and they do a phenomenal job with music and HT. If you care to research them more check out this thread http://av123forum.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=12405

It's looong so grab a sandwich sit back and enjoy.:)

OH YEAH, I almost forgot to mention the Force from ACI. Great musical sealed sub that will get below 20hz. www.audioc.com

Just to add this in there...you mentioned that you're considering the SPL800R, but you also mentioned (perhaps to a lesser degree) that money is a factor ("not sure if I can justify another 300$"). If that is the case, you could always throw in the Velo MinVee, which is the 800R, without the remote capabilities and the gloss black finish. It goes for $799, but if you hunt around, maybe it could be found a bit cheaper. (here for instance: http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?homesubw&1150861558 )

Just throwing that out there. I have the sub before the "R's", the SPL800II...it's very small, is certainly useable down to about 30Hz, plays loud. My room isn't nearly as big as yours though, so that may be a factor.

Lots of folks rave about the Rocket and they have a return policy, so that may be a good place to start. If you order, don't think it's adequate, then send it back...you'll be out the cash for shipping, but that shouldn't be too much. At least then you'll know if it will or won't work, and at half the cost. Good luck.

The Velos are definitely nice subs, but they have a price tag. In that size room, the 800R wouldn't cut it. If you want to spend the extra $$ for the 1000R, that would be a sound subwoofer. It also has a calibration mic and auto EQ like the Digital Drive series (minus the servo).

I have heard that the Dominatro D-12 is a good sub for the cubic foot. PM J_Garcia for more details, he heard one.

I have the SPL-1000R, and my room is about the same size as yours. I'm quite happy with the performance of my sub, but will honestly say that there are quite a few subs out there that are equally as good. I paid about 1100 for my Velo. That price point has a lot of worthy competition.

Thanks guys,

I was hoping I would be able to get away with an SPL-800r, because I really don't want mind shattering bass. I just want to add bottom end to my system with a great musical sub. I am worried that I will never use the SPL-1000R to its full potential, I will probably always keep the volume down to 30%.

Geno how does your monitor audio setup sound, I was debating between MA and KEF?

Thanks for your help,

Dan

Maybe I should just go with the rocket sub since its only 499$, and it should do what I want

is it the performance of the sub or the features (room EQ, remote, etc...) that attract you to the SLP-800R (or both I guess)? I have a mint Mini-Vee for sale that will give you the exact same perfomance as the SLP-800R and save you quite a bit of money too.

dhoffack: I'm really happy with my speakers, but I've had a long series of various combinations over the years. I won't say that my particular choice is the only one, since there's an awfully lot of good stuff out there at the price point I'm in. I made my decision based on price, performance, size, and looks. I couldn't be more pleased.
