Ok so I bought 2 flat packs from diysoundgroup a few days ago and am planning on separating out my dual 10" Eclipse subs. Right now they are both in very small 0.6 cubic ft sealed boxes that is a dual single enclosure. I am planning on putting them into sealed 1.25 cubic foot boxes. They are dual 4 ohm VC so I will run each at 2 ohms. So basically that means my Adcom that I am using now is out since it can not handle the 2 ohm load and I am looking to go with a pro amp. Based on my research I am between the Crown XLS1000 or the Behringer INuke 1000 DSP.

From my limited understaning, I thin the INuke gives me better functionality to control the boost level and has better subsonic filter, while the Crown is a better and more reliable amp section. Am I right with that statement??

Both have similar output ratings.....which would you guys go with?? I think both will basically give me the same ability to increase boost below 40hz and help my sealed units stretch down into the mid to upper 20hz ranges.

What would you go with.....I am open to other ideas also.

Thanks

Jeff

I'm confused as to why the Adcom is out? I thought your Adcom handles 4 ohm loads fine. So if each sub is 2ohm and you run them in series, it will present a 4 ohm load to the amp. I thought that was what you were already doing?

Right now they are in the same box so it is easy to do....will it not make me run double speaker wires back an forth between the separate cabinets??? I plan to have them about 20 feet apart from each other.....

Maybe I need to draw out a new wire diagram. AM I missing something??

Also... I think I will have a significant improvement in boosting below 40hs and flattening out response with these amps vs. using my Onkyo 708, Right??

You would just need to make one big loop between the two boxes with the amplifier in the middle.

edit: that explanation was horrible, but draw out the diagram, you won't need a lot of wires

2 ohms is pretty tough I recommend the EP4000 or maybe the Peavey IPR.

Why is the amp rated to run at 2 ohms if it can not handle it?? Seems odd especially for Crown which seems to be very prefered by most here.

My budget is not more than $299.

Also can anybody help my understand how the equalization work on amps like the INuke...I have the ability to control gains on my Onkyo is this the same capability that I would get with something like the INuke? Or does the INuke have much better capability?

The Peavey could be an option....however can I effectively manage the sub with my receiver or will I then need something additionally?

Can anybody help me understand what I will be gaining by having the capability to boost the low frequency response with either of these amps vs. using my current Onkyo 708?? If I am going to gain nothing then I will stick with the advice of Grador and keep my Adcom and wire it up the way recommended.

My current Onkyo has the abilitiy to increase Boost at 40 hz and 25 Hz......not sure if that helps those who are not familiar with that receiver.

Thanks

If I remember correctly the iNuke has a fairly powerful DSP built in that will give you a lot of flexibility. You would be able to tailor the response how you want it, far better than a simple boost with a set frequency and Q.

So....I am leaning toward the INuke. Maybe I will consider using the next size up from the 1000. Although I don't think I need it...

I'd try what you have first, see if you really think you want the DSP, and if you want more power.

I actually will not get any more power....I believe it will be less. My Adcom is rated to do close to 800 W when in bridged mode to a 4 ohnm load.
