Hi,

Do any of you have success playing back dual layer dvd's on your stand alone player? I'm using Ridata 2.4x and tried it on my sony dvp-nc80v. It always locks up on the menu's, chapter selection. if a movie does play, fast forward shows extremely pixelated image.

Is there any easy way to find out if a unit will playback dual before buying? I'm looking for a low cost unit under $150.00

I like the LiteOn DVD recorder, I guess I would run into the same problem if I record tv shows with dual layer discs so there has to be some units out there that can handle dual layer playback without any issues?!?!?

Thanks!

For burned DL discs, you'd be better off to "Booktype" the discs to DVD Roms. This only works with +R, +RW, and +R DL discs. Booktyping to DVD Rom will make the discs more compatable with most players. Commercial dvd movies are booktyped to DVD Rom. That's why they play in almost every player. Also, the burning needs to be done on a computer. I don't know of any stand alone burners that burn DL discs.

Go here to find out what booktyping is, and how to do it.............

Try a few different brand disc's, my Denon likes Mitsubishi and Verbatim DVD+R DL, but not the Ritek(Ridata) DVD+R DL. Havent tried the DVD-R DL media yet.

cheers:)
