Speakers & Setup right now
Cerwin-Vega E-710: Front L&R
Sansui S-76u: Surround L&R
Sansui SP-2500: SurroundB L&R
JBL Arena S10: Subwoofer
Sony STR-DH710: AV Reciever

Im trying to figure out if this is the best setup for these speakers.
I dont know if I should switch the sansui sp-2500s with the cerwin-vegas. As in make the cewin vegas the SurroundB L&R and the sansui sp-2500 the Front L&R. Basically which setup will produce the best sound, and why? Thanks for your time.

Just use the least capable speakers in the surround back position, they get the least work.

least caplable? Like my cervin vegas can take a whole bunch of power which is why i have them as my Front speakers. But the vegas are 3 way and peak at 200watts and the sp2500s are 5 way with peak of 80watts. The sp2500s sounds crisper and didnt know if i should have them in the front or not. Again thanks for your time!

Watts mean very little in this respect, max wattage ratings on speakers are more about melting points than anything really useful. Use sensitivity specs if you want to compare how much amp power is needed for a given spl (sound pressure level). Use an spl calculator perhaps to help see the relationship of watts to spl.

Capable to me is more about frequency range and spl capabilities. I'd use the speaker with the lesser frequency range spec and smallest drivers for rear surrounds and just the opposite for my main L/R speakers, those I want to be the most capable.

ps Just googled each of your speakers briefly, not a lot of info there but see you have mostly floorstanders there. Are you raising the surrounds up or leaving them on the floor? I'd use the smallest drivers for rear surrounds. Are you going without a center?

I dont have a center at the moment. My pops passed a lil over a year ago and gave me the sansui's and reciever. After that i added the cerwins and sub. And i have the surround back speakers about 2&1/2 ft off of the ground. I have the tv set as a center speaker but i know it isnt a real center speaker. Im getting a center speaker very soon. And thanks for the info! Its a big help!

I would pick my favorites for listening to music to use for left and right speakers. Then build out from there.
