Hello. Signed up to the forum basically to get some input.

I'm buying some speakers for my office/computer. I have narrowed it down to a couple options but other suggestions are welcome as well. So could you please tell me what you would do. The main use for the speaker setup will be music as I do all my movie/tv in the living room and gaming using headphones.

Option 1 - Pioneer Andrew Jones SP-BS22-LR + Best subwoofer for around $100 + Shurwood rs-4105 or Dayton Audio DTA-100a.

Option 2 - Pioneer Andrew Jones Designed SP-FS52 + Shurwood rs-4105 or Dayton Audio DTA-100a.

Other Suggestion welcome. Preferably under $300.

I came so close to buying the audioengine a2's but I think for just a little more money with one of these setups It would be quite a bit better.

Thanks

At $300, I'd skip the sub and put the money into speakers and an amplifier/receiver. I don't know how much space you have in your office but powered speakers simplify the number of boxes you need. I know if I were looking for a replacement for my current desktop set up, I'd get a pair of the airmotiv 4s but they are over your budget at $349 a pair: Emotiva Professional, LLC

Unfortunatly $300 is max as of right now. I'll spend less also if my initial thinking is overkill. The room is only 10x12. I have plenty of space for a couple speaker. I'm not too concerned about getting a sub. Can always add later down the road. I don't mind whether or not the setup up is active or passive. Just seems like from what I've read you get more for your money by going the passive route.

If it helps, I'm coming from using a cyber acoustics 2.1 system with an 8" sub. Just looking for better sound not crazy volume.

Take a look at the audio insider which sells a variety of powered speakers at or under $300: Swan

I'll strongly recommend that Serwood 4105

I know four people who have been using Sherwood 4105's, some for many years now, with no trouble and nobody, even I, can find fault with their performance.

As for the speakers/sub combinations, one of those 4105's is using that Polk sub wit a pait of small Polk bookshelf speakers and it sounds quite nice, particularly considerig the whole setup cost her about $280. I should know. I told her to buy it and I set it up for her.

Ok. Well I am buying a used receiver off craigslist for $50. It's a Pioneer VSX-816k. I'll just use it in stereo mode.
Still torn on whether to get the larger floor standing speakers with the larger woofers or the bookshelf speakers and dedicated sub. I might even be happy with just the bookshelf speakers without the sub. I'm open to other speakers as well. Not set on the Pioneer's. They just seemed well reviewed.
