Isn't the AVR-247 pretty weak power-wise in comparison to the Onkyo 605 and the Yamaha 661? It only puts out 50 W per channel compared to 90 for the other two.
HK doesn't overestimate their receiver's power rating like Onkyo and Yamaha. They test their stuff at all channels driven whereas the Onkyo and Yamaha don't. I wouldn't be surprised if the HK pumped out more wattage than the Onkyo and Yamaha when driving all 7 channels. Don't get too caught up on the wattage rating of receivers, unless we are talking about a 20w Insignia or something. :)

What 20 watt Insignia?

The H/K weighs 31 pounds, the Onkyo and Yamaha weight around 25. The H/K has a little more heft and remember that their power ratings are with all channels driven.

Given that, most HT applications don't use more than 10 watts per channel at a time unless there are some dynamic passages, which the H/K can handle very well.:)

That insignia receiver in that HTIB has 200w total. So like 20-30w per channel advertised. No idea what it would be like in the real world.

OP: I would say that for what you want go with the HK. Better build quality than the Onkyo.
