Thanks Zieglj01.

I have to save money first if I decided to go with Denon though….So if you have any other suggestion than Denon AVR X5200W, please let me know.

The so called 4 ohm certified thing is some sort of a misnomer. It typically (there are always exceptions) means the manufacturer can claim the product can be used with 4 ohms rated speakers as long as you select the 4 ohm setting either in the form of a selector switch or via software. When set to 4 ohms, the unit will probably just limit the current, in most cases it could actually get you much less power output than if you leave it at the 8 ohm setting.

For more information, please read Gene's review on the AVR-X5200W. For real world music or movie enjoyment, the Denon X5200W, X-4000, 4520, Onky 838 and above, Yamaha 1040 and above, Marantz SR6009 and above should be able to drive you speakers to SPL that can cause you hearing loss if you are not careful. That's base on you sitting only 8 ft from the center speaker and assuming your room is small to medium size (by THX standard).

If you really need the latest features, saving up for the X5200W is a wise thing to do and if you can wait a year, you will likely be able to get one for under $1,000. While waiting, try to engage your subwoofer even when listening to symphonies and set the Q900 to small and crossover at 80 Hz. If you don't want to wait, then try shop for the lowest price for a new 4311, 4520, X4000, or the SR-6008, 7007. Or you can try out the equivalent Yamaha models too, depending on the geometry and acoustic environment of your room, you may not benefit much from Audssey and Yamaha does have their own room EQ system (YPAO).

Example of a good deal ($799 for a new X4000 free shipping):

I would keep my eye out for price drops on the Yamaha 3030 receiver.

I would find it hard, to spend full price on a receiver - your call
Also, I would look at the Yamaha 2030 - and a good price

It comes down to your needs, desires and what you can live with.

Thanks Peng and Zieglj01for the input.

So what you are saying is that even if I purchased 4 ohm capable receiver, it is better to set each speaker as 8 ohm rather than 4 ohm if I am not mistaken?

Acoustically my room may not be ideal for listening to music, because it is not an confined entertainment room, it is just a living room about 600sq feet. I placed speakers on the corners, but the sound may escape since it is not confined by the wall on the other side. Plus the ceiling is about 17 feet high, so I do not know if it is a good thing or not. But I feel as if the sound echoes throughout the room and even in my bedroom upstairs.

If I decided to go with last year’s model, do you recommend brand new one or refurbished?

I would start with leaving it at 8 ohms to start - as long as it sounds good and clean,
then leave it. As always, make sure the receiver can breathe [have ventilation]

If the receiver happens to shut down - then change the switch.

Some do not buy refurbish - however, a lot of us do and most of us have had good
success with them.

For under 1K that sure is good price but still $200 more than the Denon X4000. In pure direct mode, the Yamaha likely has better DACs and overall audio specs, but would also likely result in no audible difference ordinary humans in blind tests.

Either way, I think the OP should wait for black friday/boxing day deal.:D

Lots and Lots of AH members bough refubs from AC4L and most of them quite happy. Not always the product sold as refub has actually even been used at all. They are fully certified to offer same 1y manufacturer warranty.

That said, if you call Electronic Expo - you might get NEW X4000 for about same money as AC4L.

Thanks guys for the plenty of info!! I am getting confused with what I would like to purchase, and from where, refurbished or new...but I would take my time to narrow it down.
