Which receiver? Denon 1910 or 3805

I am not very educated on home audio as I am with car audio, but I know the Denon 1910 is a great unit that I could get for $465 with a 2 year warranty or I could get a used Denon 3805 for $400. The 3805 seems like it would be a better unit but is it the best choice over a new 1910? I will be hooking it up to Fluance SX speakers. I am looking for a receiver that will last me a long time, output good sound quality, and have nice features so when it comes time to upgrade it, I will be able to sell it easier.

Welcome to the forum!

The best choice will depend on the features that you want. The 3805 is a nice receiver, but it is older and doesn't have HDMI connections. If those are important to you, then I'd say pass on the 3805. The 1910 has HDMI connections but no pre-amp outputs, and if those are important to you, then you might need to look at different receivers than those two.

If you don't care about pre-amp outputs, then I'd recommend the 1910 out of the two that you listed. HDMI is becoming more and more prevalent, and the 1910 would probably be easier to sell in the near future.

3805 is the more robust of the 2 units. It has more power, and is likely built better (like a tank). The 1910 has the latest and greatest featrures for connectivity. As to which one will sound better.... that would be a loaded question but if one is to sound better than the other it would be the 3805 over the 1910 given they are both operating within their limits. The 3805 will be a thing of the past sooner than the 1910... but their resale values could likely remain fairly similar.

If it were me... it would be totally about what my plan were to do with the unit NOW and in the future/near future. I have used the 3805 to pass high def sound through analogues... so no worries there. It works great.
You have a tough choice, but it is a very personal one. Use the force

haven't heard the 3805 but i have been really impressed with the 1910, esp. for the price.

Denon AVR-3805 A/V Receiver.

I own the 3805, and was using it to pass high res. audio from a Samsung UP5000, through the multichannel analog outputs and into the 3805's Ext. In.
And I did the same with my Panny BD55.

And it works Wonder. :)

1910 is the route i would go.
It is getting good reviews for the most part.
