I am looking to purchase a set of bookshelves for use at the office. I recently audition the follow three speakers, they are priced at the same value, they sound nearly the same. I like them all but which would the best value for money?

Size is an issue as i can't have a hulking pair due to space constraints.

Contenders
  1. Wharfedale Diamond 9.0
  2. Tannoy F1
  3. Mordaunt Short 902i
They will be powered by a HK 6550R Integrated Amp. Currently getting source signals from a JVC DVD player , a tuner and a line in from my PC (For 129bit Audio Streams)

I do intend to acquire a better quality CD player and tube pre amp down the line when i have enough $$$. :)

Inputs would be great. Cheers.

I have heard the Diamonds and I thought they were quite good. I owned the original 902s and loved them (you can get them for ~$200 from www.ac4l.com brand new). I can't find any info on that H/K?

The H/K is a int amp from the mid 90s which i dusted off and had serviced. So its between good and loved huh. :) One uses a carbon cone whilst the other comes with a alloy cone which does make it slightly brighter. But they all sound pretty good to me. :) Choices.

I've never been able to release vintage Tannoy from my head to enjoy the newer, modern line offerings. I have heard the MS and while their marketing has improved over the last couple years, the loudspeaker hasn't. Just an opinion.

Finally decided on the Wharfedales 9.0. Sound was not as robust as compared to the 9.1 but i had space constraints. Was told by the sales person that run in is not recommended. He said just play them and they will get seasoned naturally. The speakers have only two terminals due to its size.

Anyway been reading about the running in on this site, thing is am undecided. What are your views?
