Which One will have more BASS between these two?

Hey Guys,

I wanted to know this if anyone off you can please give me some information on this.

A 5.25 inch woofer with a frequency response of about 45Hz-24KHz will it always, anytime, necessarily have more BASS then say a 4 inch Woofer with a frequency response, of 45Hz-35KHz?

Everything else being equal, a 5.25" woofer should have an advantage in bass over a 4" driver. However, everything being equal is rarely the case and there are likely many 4" drivers that have deeper bass extension than some 5.25"s. There are many other factors involved than simple woofer diameter.

What if it is a Soundbar which has 2 woofer with a frequency of 45Hz-35KHz will it still sound inferior to a single 5 Inch woofer with a 45Hz-24KHz ?

It's hard to say without more specifics. My guess is that they will be about even, and the difference will be negligible.

Neither of them have bass because they're 4 inch and 5 inch woofers. If you go the soundbar route, get one with a subwoofer pre-out and add a separate subwoofer (even an 8 inch will be a noticeable gain). 45Hz is the musical spectrum of bass reproduction, those statistics are also probably exaggerated, you'll be missing the lower 7 or 8 keys on a piano.

None of those will have any bass below 50 Hz. I wouldn't worry about bass extension with any of those. A good pair of bookshelf speakers will do bass better than those units.

Generally, a speaker will be rated as within a decibel range, say 40 to 16khz within so many decibels. Without that, that 40 hz figure could be so much lower in level than the midrange frequencies that it would be inaudible.

Even with that, there are so many ways they could measure it that one still cannot get a realistic opinion without listening to them in a real world environment.

I've only heard the B&W of those three. If you're using it for music playback in a living room or something it's very VERY nice. They also have the A7 which is the new flagship, but it's a steep $800 for a box (ballin box though).

Zeppelin Air is a 2011 release product so it is a little dated ( However is a fantastic product)compared to the other two new entrants which have been released in 2013 and 2014. Zeppelin Air is a three way system with a tweeter, mid range driver and a 5 inch woofer ! But the JBL L8 is a 2014 release product though is just a two way speaker system i.e. Just a tweeter and two 4 inch woofer which is also supposed to handle the mid frequencies, blows the s-h-i-t out of the Zeppelin Air and Klipsch KMC-3. It has almost got 5 star ratings at all the reviews at famous critics levels !! Just my two cents !!

I have already purchased the JBL L8 but I am frankly, I still don't know If I made the right decision ? I am confused

I've been through a few subs over the years. One thing I found out is: "If it sounds like sub it's not a good sub" it should be just an extension of your mains.

He's not using a subwoofer, he bought a music system with different drivers rated for the same output.

OP,

I've heard the Zepplin Air (the older one) and I thought it sounded great. I wanted it, but I had 2 stereos in my apartment already, I would have to sell off one and then never use the other to justify it. My home will be changing around again in a years time or so, and I might be revisiting my theater arrangement depending on space. One of those is a short list to provide music without having to fire up the big stereo.

OP, one thing you have to consider, particularly with your overly simplistic leading question, is that there's a heluva lot more at play here than simply driver size.

ALL of these units have internal amplification and employ contouring of their amp outputs to increase the bass output and trim possibly ragged highs and midranges so the size of the bass drivers is basically immaterial when that's figured into the equation.
