I personally prefer Vizio's LCDs over their Plasmas, and the LCD is 1080p.:D I choose the LCD.:)

I also in general prefer LCD's, but if you do a google search on the particular model of vizio Plasma that you are considering, you will find that they are very well received. I believe that all their plasmas incorporate the Faroudja DCDi processor so they are very good at resolving SD content as well as HD. the 47" 1080P model does not use the Faroudja processor and as much as I like that TV, you will definately notice that it leaves a bit to be desired when viewing SD content.
With that in mind, you have to decide if you are ok with a somewhat sub-par SD presentation, but good HD quality with 1080P input capability if you are considering their LCD. What content will you be watching most frequently? Do you play video games and are you likely to experience burn-in?

I have seen the 47" Visio and can happily say, without reservation, that it is one of the worst looking LCD displays that I have ever seen. Fed by a Oppo DVD player or HD cable it looked like arse... Never something I would recommend unless it is in a "I don't give a damn" environment. In which case the plasma should work anyway.

Agreed, Vizio doesn't make a good display, they are just cheap. The blacks are terrible and the colors aren't vivid. It just makes it worse that I am soured on them after having two lemons.

The best bet for your money is a display that costs a little more and is a little smaller but actually has good picture quality.

yeah i actually dont mind the picture quality on my neighbors.

although its not great, its definitely not that bad. i decided to get the 50'' plasma and at 900 bucks its pretty damn cheap. it was actually about $1050 out the door, but its still cheap.

the only problem is i dont want it to break on me. but its not going to be part of my home entertainment center for very long, once i have more money ill buy a new screen and switch this to my bedroom.

anyway thanks for all the help. im glad i didnt waste money on the lcd.
