Looking for powered monitors, huh?

I heard good stuff about Adam Audio. Also Dynaudio and Focal professional active monitors.

I have not heard of that retailer.

I'm not familiar with Dynaudio, but I do see them mentioned here quite a bit. Focal, I don't think you can go wrong there.

Yeah, I now have Goldenear Triton 2 and Sat5 in 5.1 config (surrounds are not GE but just utilitarian right now), Infinity Primus 363s, Def Tech SM350s, looking for a good powered pair and a killer sub now. After that, I want to build a pair of Tritrix, keep waiting and hoping to see them go on sale.

Oh yeah, I suspect the P363 cabinet damping and bracing will be in my future too.

Never heard of them. Anybody on AH use them? I do see an ebay store, so that gives a little confidence, knowing that anything through ebay would have the buyer protection.

FullCompass carries them and I believe they have a pretty good reputation.

GuitarCenter & Musician's Friend carry them - but they have some pretty bad reviews on reseller ratings.

I believe in that trickle down effect. :D

KEF active monitors benefit from their $160,000 speakers R&D from England, Dynaudio has their $100,000 speakers from Denmark, Focal has their $190,000 speakers from France, JBL has their $70,000 speakers, etc.

I almost bought the Focal Solo6 from Sweetwater for $2700/pr because the Solo6 have the W-cone drivers and Beryllium tweeters and so do their $190,000 Grande Utopia (well, okay, it's not the same, but trickle down nonetheless). :D

Besides Zzsounds I mentioned, Adam Audio A7x Nearfield Monitor 2-Way 7 Inch Woofer

Musicians Friend looks like have best google shopping reviews - over 22k and avg of 4.5. Guitar center is not far off

ps: Why Adam? Checkout Behringer B3030a ;)
Yeah, I have a guitar center near me, I'll have to go in there and see what they got!

Yeah, I've seen the Behringers, worth a listen. I'm also thinking about the Emotiva Pros.

ADAM is top-notch from everything I've ever read and from a friend that works in an authorized service center, that is why I'm interested in them :D

edit: I looked at the guitar center website, I see they have some used and blemished for cheaper. I definitely foresee a trip to guitar center in my near future. Thanks guys, there is actually a couple here in town and I didn't even think about checking them out!

Trickle-down effect? Sounds too much like Reagan-omics to me :D
I knew you must be a Republican

Kidding aside, yeah, I agree. You see the same thing in the auto-industry too.

I'm quite neutral when it comes to politics and religion.:D

TLG Guy was saying yesterday that ATC uses the same driver technology in their $60,000 speakers as their $1,000 speakers. It's everywhere. :D

I've seen other places of trickle-down that you might find surprising. The thing is, it's cheaper to make 1 type of product and market that to different segments than it is to make a bunch of different products, one for each segment. The key is, the segments need to be isolated from each other and not realize what is going on.

For example, I have seen countless PCBs that have empty holes on them, labeled and ready to go for additional circuitry. It is cheaper to make all of 1 board and use only what is needed for the low-end product and leave the copper traces on the board even if not being used. High end product uses the same board and utilizes all the circuitry. It is cheaper to make 1 design and not have to have down-time and risk mistakes on changing the line. By the way, I work at a semiconductor manufacturing plant.

I can't recall the exact product, but I have read about some computer cards that you can easily mod by soldering in a few jumpers to get much better performance. It's all there, it's just handicapped for the cheaper product. Someone that is handy with electronics can work around the handicaps!

I can tell you from experience that the A7's are a fantastic monitor. The behringer's look interesting and get good reviews, but I haven't heard them so I can't comment. The lower end Dynaudio monitors I've heard sound fantastic, but my ears preferred the Adam's. When I worked at guitar center we never carried any Focal's, but a buddy has some and loves them, plus I don't think I've ever heard anyone say a bad thing about them.

The A7's are a great deal for the money. You may get lucky and find a good used pair at GC.

You mean A7 or A7X?

I see what looks like a used pair of A7 for $400 online
