Where do you purchase CDs & DVDs?

CD's - Mostly at yourmusic.com ($5.99/shipped); that's the best deal I know of. Occasionally I will also buy at any of the normal internet vendors like Amazon, Buy.com, or CDUniverse.

DVD's - Usually at B&M stores for newly released A-List titles, as well as the heavily discounted stuff.

I rarely buy anything new. My used CDs and DVDs come from the used record shops, where the CDs range from a buck to twelve, and the DVDs range from $4 to $25. I rarely pay more than $10 for a DVD or a CD at these places.

Since discovering Craig's List (craigslist.org), I've been buying the majority of my stuff there. Five bucks for a CD, eight for a DVD, like, on average, sometimes more, sometimes less. I should point out that you'd be buying directly from other people who are trying to sell stuff from their collection. Go to the site, click on your city, and you'll get a better idea of what I'm talking about.

* All dollars quoted in Canadian currency.

cheers,
supervij

cds, used or 3rd party vendors section at amazon, I've paid 4 or 5 bucks sometimes, including shipping. I'll check out yourmusic and craigslist soon, thanks for the recommendation. sometimes I go to borders (but leave empty handed 3 out of 5 times)

CDs at Yourmusic. I don't buy DVDs anymore (since I'll need to replace them all with HD-DVDs anyway).

For used, I like half.com. For new, take a look at deepdiscountdvd.com or deepdiscountcd.com.

For new popular, mass-marketed cds I generally go to Amazon. For harder to find music I often have good luck at gemm.com. I've also bought a number of indie discs at cdbaby.com, reasonable prices plus they're a hoot to deal with.

Yourmusic.com is BMG Music Club( www.bmgmusic.com ). You can get much better end result prices by using the club directly. For example:

-11 'Free' CDs

-pay 2.79 for each one shipped

-must buy 1 CD(now you have 12 CDs) at regular price of 18.98

-12 x 2.79 (shipping fee for each CD):33.48 + 18.98(regular price CD) = $52.46

You end up paying an averaged $4.37 each after completion using the basic fulfill model. They may offer specials where you get some percentage discount from the 1 fulfillment CD, which would drive the final average unit price even lower.

You might wonder about what you do after you get 12 CDs....

Well, BMG Music Club allows you to cancel and rejoin immediately after cancelling, allowing you to effectively repeat the process as much as you desire. I have been on the cycle two times before, and I am now on the 3rd one.

The only downside to BMG is that they might make you wait for a few months on new releases before having them available for order. If I really want a new release, I'll end up buying it at Best Buy or similar, but for most things, I can wait.

If only they had prices like this in the brick and mortar stores.....

many times the "used" at amazon are actually new from -my guess- sellers trying to get rid of inventory.

out of print cds, you have to buy used.

i don't like used stuff either, e.g. shoes, bed sheets. cds on the other hand, if they're in good condition, don't make much difference.

Here in Philly there is a used CD store right off the UofPA campus. College students are always selling the latest in music after they rip the CD to some other media.

I have bought a bunch of used DVD's from Blockbuster and never had a problem with them. I just wait until they run one of their sales (4 for $20).
