I hadnt really explored DVD-A at all, but did some looking around and found an eagle track last night in DTS and downloaded it, (the whole album was available but i try to avoid piracy) After burning it to cd, dropped it in the DVD player and was blown away.... I gotta get more.. Wheres the best place to find this stuff?
Like i said, for those that do download music, there are tons of DTS tracks available as .wav files that you can DL and burn...

Not DVD-A, but SACD
sa-cd.net

I haven't come across any DVD-A stores online, yet. Then again, I haven't really searched.

If I do find any, I'll try and post it here.

AIX Records produces the best sounding Hi-Res music (all DVD-A) that can be found anywhere. www.aixrecords.com Trust me, you will not be dissapointed!

Other than that, I always check out www.sa-cd.net for SACD releases.

CD Universe is pretty good for looking up SACD and DVD-A's, as each are listed as their own category. http://www.cduniverse.com

Good luck and enjoy!

Perhaps a SACD player would be a good investment?

I'll second the plug for AIX records. Those guys really know what they're doing, even though it seems DVD-A is pretty much a niche market these days. Another good site for DVD-A and SACD is Acoustic Sounds, even though they do go off into looneyland with their promotion of snake oil cables and power cords.

I absolutely love Hi-Res multichannel music! I don't know what I'd do without it! It's completely up to you whether a player is "worth it" or not.

If you are interested in a player, don't limit yourself to SACD player, get a good universal player like an Oppo-DV 980HD. Keep in mind that multichannel SACD and DVD-A can only be passed by HDMI or multichannel analog cables, so if you have an older or entry level reciever that might be a problem.

Another way to get the capability for SACD and DVD-A would be getting a universal player (e.g. Denon 2910/3910) that are going pretty cheaply these days. My 3910 still plays SD DVDs better than my Blu-Ray, plus DVD-A and SACD with spectacular results.

What has worked for me on the past, as a last resort, I google the artist's name and what I've found is amazing. Some classic artists that have disappeared or are perceived to be non-relevant by today's music industry actually have their own site and sell their music and videos. I've been able to find re-issued and out of print music and videos this way. For the current stuff I surf to all the ones listed by others, Amazon, etc.

I'd recommend the Oppo 980H as well.

It handles DSD natively through HDMI, which is great if you have an Onkyo TX-SR805, TX-SR875 or TX-NR905; all three feature PCM1796 DAC's which have a clock speed of 11.289MHz for native DSD to analog conversion bypassing PCM.

The more expensive Yamaha RX-Z11 and Denon 5308CI have PCM1792 DAC's, which allow for even better dynamic range than the PCM1796 DAC, but at $5,000 a pop they are much more out of my range than the Onkyo's, of which the 805 can be found as low as $749.

I have bought most of my DVD-As from CD Universe. However, I was able to find (and purchased) some DVD-A from http://www.frys.com/ when I couldn't find them at CD Universe.

Speaking of DVD-A, anyone who missed out on the HDAD version of The Alan Parsons Project's "Turn of a Friendly Card" when it went OOP for a time are in luck. Good news is that it's available again at themusic.com I think they're associated with Classic Records. The HDAD of I Robot was fetching $150 on ebay. Unfortunately it seems to still be OOP.

I Robot is now back in stock - $20 plus shipping. I picked up a second copy, just in case. ;)

I have purchased DVD-Audio discs through Amazon.com. I often buy used discs there a little less expensively.
