I tend to like the Thrift Stores When I bought mine I was choosing between some big Panasonic Speakers,Technics I actually ended up by getting a pair of Bic Venturi Formula 2's What is your opinion on these and do these have the original woofers? How would the Panasonic's have been in general what about the Technics? Unknown Model #'s.

Blah. These companies aren't known for making great speakers. Buy speakers that were made by a speaker manufacturer, not an electronics manufacturer.

The Technics is no where near balanced, in sound. Technics and
Panasonic are in general, the same > the same company.

Go to Ebay and shop - I just bought a pair of Definitive Tech DR-7
speakers, that will pancake the Technics speaker. Also, a pair of
Energy C-1 speakers that will beat the average B&M strores. The
Definitive was $15.50 plus shipping - and the Energy was $81 plus
shipping.

I didn't buy the Panasonic's or the Technics I liked them but not as much as Bic Of America! I don't really know anything about Definitive Tech. I know the Bic's will sound better than any Technics,Panasonic Speaker.

A lot of people like the Bic speakers. They will, and do sound better than
the Technics/Panasonic speakers.

Depends on what you're looking for.

If you're looking for the best sound audition at a local hi-fi shop or Best Buy w/ a Magnolia (or just a stand alone Magnolia).

If you're looking for cheap speakers that just play sound, anything, from anywhere, will be fine.

If you know what you want and it's too expensive locally, keep an eye on Audiogon for cheaper used.

I get mine from my garage. Tablesaw, router, circsaw, jigsaw etc....

I get 'em where-ever I find them. Garage sales, rummage sales, flea markets, real live stores or where-ever they may be.

I ignore the usual drek (something you should learn) and that eliminates about 90% of what's out there and if it's "workable", in decent shape, and going for a decent price, it's mine.

All my audio gear was acquired in the best way possible. It was all given to me by a buddy.

Sorry I had to. :)

I get mine from a classified ad site, kijiji. Just wait until i find a good deal then get them saved a lot on my system, originally everything would cost around $4,000 but got everything for $800, mostly people moving quickly or older folks who just don't have need for such high end anymore, they are treated properly most of the time and will surprise you. Also eBay :)

I think you missed the point: I build my own speakers.
I got it - just having a little fun, been a rough year. I just bought 4 pairs
of speakers off Ebay. The challenge is to figure out, how to give them a
little play time. The audio hobby can be unique, and interesting at times.

A long car ride to audition, then purchase. I want to hear the speakers with my ear before I pay out hard earned money on hearsay.

The audition is usually an illusion, and once home, you may become very disappointed.

My best advice for an audition is to only audition speakers in pairs. If the budget is limited, and the source is pre-determined, matching the power similarly is also advised.

Still, one must understand that the better and higher-end the dealer, the more that was spent on the audition room acoustics.;)
