Suggestions for next upgrade? Equip: Turntable - Sota Moonbeam; CD - Rega Planet; Pre - Tandberg 3002A; Amp. Carver M1.5; Speakers - dynaudio contour T2.5.
I'm trying to look down the road with each upgrade. Thanks for your suggestions folks. BTW, I have a Velodyne 12" Sub, but not hooked up because 1) not sure I need it, and 2) don't know how to hook it up as there is no sub outlet on Tandberg. Can anybody tell me where to run the sub from? Thanks again.

Hello Novice22,

Is that your current system that you listed there? Or equipment choices for your next upgrade? If that's your current system, what are you looking to upgrade to?

As for the sub, what's the model #? Does it have speaker connections on the back? If it does, you could run your right and left channel from the amp to the sub and then from the sub to the speakers. Check the Velodyne website for a users manual for the correct set up.

Hope this helps.

Scott

You're right & Thanks

Scott: That's my current system and you're right, I'm more than likely not going to be able to hear the sound that I'm going to be spending big bucks to get. I wondered about tubes, but, heck, I'm 57 y/o vet that's not heard sublty since 1969. I guess I get caught up on the more and more and bigger and bigger, and I don't stop to think that I've got a pretty nice system that gives me great pleasure. So, I think I'll stay with this unless, some REALLY good buy comes along. So thanks Scott. Appreciate it.

BTW. Velodyne is CT100 and it has speaker connects in back.

Next upgrade . . .

First, buy some speaker wire to hook up that sub and maybe a calibration disk and SPL meter.
Next, think about some acoustic pannels to improve the room rather than the speakers or electornics. The speakers and the room have the greatest impact on what you hear.

Dale,

That is a nice system you have, some upgrades you may want to try would be in the cables. Not sure if your a beliver or not in good quality cables; some do, some don't. Just an idea.

Have you thought about dealing with the 1 thing that make more difference than anything else in what you hear? Your room? You'll get drastically more improvement in sound than from any cable change or just about anything else other than a speaker change.

Not suggesting your speakers are bad - just that speakers and the room are the 2 biggest things that contribute to what you hear.

thanks all.

Local dealer in high end has gained my confidence (Primus Audio) recommended accoustic considerations next. From there, I'll be able to make other decisions. I'm still looking into the wire issue. Confusing as heck to be sure. Carver says use lamp wire to speakers. Anyway, I'm going to work with accoustics then probably look to cables and adjusting placements. I did manage to pick up a goldring elite for $200 on ebay (NIB). Thanks again all. Listening to those more experienced in combination with listening to the music itself is my plan.

Well, if you really don't know what you need, short term CD's are going for somewhere in the neighborhood of 5%

Yes, forget that cable suggestion. Even if you could hear well, it is urban legend, audio voodoo.

Welcome novice22,

Hook up that sub first off. You can turn it off/on depending on what your listening to. Subs are great fun to play with.

How much placement and calibration to your system have you done? If you haven't go get a spl meter and calabration disc and play with that and then think about room treatment.

I find that just playing with what I have cures that upgrade bug more often than not. (and my system is 8 years old with 15 & 20 year old speakers) Man now I want to upgrade real bad!

Have fun,
SBF1

BTW...Just because someones hearing isn't perfect dosen't mean that improvements in sound quality can't be made even at your level of equipment.
