For the record I am about as frugal as they come. I am in the market for a new HDTV as my older RCA Scenium HDTV(sans HDMI) is wearing thin. I recently read an article on Yahoo about this being the best time to buy a TV when you consider that new models arrive in April and May.
Thinking President's Day would be a great sales opportunity, I hit all the local brick and morter locations and was actually surprised to see prices higher than pre-super bowl level!!!
Maybe I am too cheap, but I want to spend under $1600 for a 60" or larger DLP television and I want the furniture/stand included!!! Am I crazy, is this just not possible???
I was looking at either a Samsung or a Mitsubishi (not a SONY fan really) and both BB and CC salepersons thought I was crazy, or at least they treated me like I was!!! Perhaps it was my approach, I did bluntly ask them where the deals where, and I even challenged them on the increased prices that I percieved. Both salespersons made the mistake of pitching the SONY SXRD despite my expressed desire not to. Maybe it is me, but if I go to a car lot looking to buy a Ford, why would you try to sell me a Chevy???
So with March Madness coming soon, should I hold out a little longer and try to buy then??? Am I crazy for believing that if I am buying a $1600 or more HDTV that it should come with a basic stand, why should I have to pay another $300-$400??? Am I foolish for even attempting to haggle, afterall it is not really like buying a car, you usually don't haggle in retail stores???
By the way, in order to get to this point I had to haggle with the other half about getting the TV. I bargained with her using her friend's desire to upgrade their TV by offering to practically give away my old RCA 61". Seeing this as a charitable gesture to her cash-strapped friend, she agreed to the idea!!!
