Home Theater Magazine just reviewed the 5308.

With 2 Ch Driven, it cranks out 340 watts RMS into 4 ohms @ 1% THD.

This is interesting because the Denon 5805 also cranks out 340 watts into 4 ohms x 2 Ch, although the 5805 is rated with higher power than the 5308 (170WPC vs. 150WPC @ 8 ohms).

The 5308 looks to be every bit the 5808 PLUS all the newer features of today.

I agree.:D

AH review is the ultimate, especially with Gene doing the detailed lab spec measurements.

HTM's review of the 5308 was just an appetizer for the main course AH review.:D

I still wish AH would come out with an actual physical magazine. I don't mind all the advertisements. You gotta do what it takes to stay alive in this economy. We are all smart enough to know a great detailed review from the other so-called "reviews".

The other magazines (HT, S&V, Stereophile) each costs about $13/yr. If AH would come out with a magzine for $20/yr, I would stop subscribing to the other magazines and just subscribe to AH.:D

But that would mean that AH would have to review more variety of products like DefTech, B&W, Mirage, Bryston, etc.

I would not even mind if AH did SUBJECTIVE reviews of those high-price cables. Run them through the lab and crank out the subjective numbers. Honest review of any product is great.

Anyway, the review of the 5308 in August should be great.

I hope Never.....It's the advertisements that pay the bill, readers are only counted as demographics.

I'm sure AH has to watch what they do as to preserve the relationship that they have with the big boys. But I do think the reviews are honest.

Never bought an A/V equipment unless reviewed by AH. I thought to upgrade for 3808 or 4308 which have never been reviewed by AH, so i didn't. Just waiting for this review to decide on the upgrade.

I just peered Clint's review and added measurements. After Denon does a tech peer / fact check, it will go online, probably this Friday or next Monday.

Overall the product did well but don't expect 5805 level amplifier performance, nor is posturing that either

Well, the 5805 is rated @ 170wpc x 10, while the 5308 is 150wpc x 7.

Thus, we can't really expect the same power specs.

However, I expect the 5308 will have the edge in the Preamp section.

I expect better DACs (Burr Brown PCM-1796) and Video Processors (Realta) in the 5308.

I believe the 5805 has the Burr-Brown PCM-1791.

The 5805CI has the Faroudja video chip.

I didn't see the crosstalk on the 5805 in your review.

I also expect the 5308 to have better THD+N% and better SNR?

Friday (or Monday) is going to seem like a long wait.:D

I am pretty sure the 5805 also had Burr brown 1792s. When you get to that quality level of dac, its more about implementation than anything which Denon has always excelled in. From an audio standpoint the 5805 had superior components overall, not just b/c of higher power. It was a different animal all together. The 5805 is more comparible to the Denon separates solution in that regard.

Yes video processing on the 5308 is superior to the 5805 and the former also has alot of cool new features the 5805 doesn't have.

I like the 5805 so much that I am keeping it in my primary theater system to power my bedroom system and also handle reviews of separate 5.1 systems independent of my main system.

I don't want to front page that review on a Friday... but if I can get it online today I'll link it in the forums. It will officially hit the site on Monday.
