We should have seen prices coming down slowly over the past couple of years, but I suspect that manufacturers and wholesalers have not passed on any savings to retailers or customers, preferring instead to take the benefit of exchange as profit. I also suspect that we will continue to see more of the same for most products.
Some products that are highly competitive, like TV's, furniture and some household products may see some price drops. The problem is that the products that are sourced from Asia or Europe are not likely to see much change, since there has been no dramatic change in $cdn vs the Euro, Yuan or Yen.
Part of the problem is that Canada is just a more expensive place to do business, regarding red tape, bureaucracy, taxes, transportation (gas), etc. Plus, it's a smaller market within which to absorb these additional costs, so I suspect that our prices will remain higher than the U.S. for the most part.
The above is entirely my ill-considered opinion and speculation. YMMV.
