What's your favorite microwave popcorn?

I thought to ask this because of a popcorn discussion in another thread. While large poppers are fun to have in any HT, I dont plan to buy one anytime soon so my question is about microwave popcorn.

First of all, I think many of the brands selling now taste great, and I dont think movie theater popcorn has anything over on the microwave variety. For example, the microwave variety always seems to be evenely butter compared to having it poured on the top..etc, etc....

Anyway, I have done a little experimenting, and my favorite is Pop Secret-Extra Butter. It popps into large fluffy, tasty pieces, and tends to be yellowish in color.

My 2nd choice would be Orville Redenbachers-Movie Theater Butter. They tend to pop a little smaller, and are more white once popped, but still tasty nevertheless:)

PS... Oh yea, and I never eat it out of the paper bags:D Pouring it into a large bowl is a must!!!

...most nuked PC smells rancid to me, must be those trans-fat-laden, hydrogenated lubricant-based additives...call me old fashioned but I prefer Jolly-time done in a hot-air popper with some freshly melted butter...

Agreed. We have a hot air popper, and you can't beat it.

I take mine without butter though.

I need to go grocery shopping more often, my fiance only buys the Orville Redenbachers stuff. Never had the Cinnabon or cheese ones but they sound good.

Corn of the popped variety

Here's how I make what I consider to be the best popcorn...

Get a large cooking pot, put it on the stove top.
Fill the pot till it just covers the bottom of the pot, put just a little veg oil in there, and a table spoonful of butter (or not, depends on how you like your corn of the popped variety).
Heat on medium and swirl the pot every 45 seconds or so, swirl continuously once popping beings.
Salt if you like salt, if not, no salt.

Eat the whole pot!
mmm...... popcorn......

Seriously, I have no life.
Jolly Time here

The 94% fat free kind.
I hate to clean up that pot with oil, even if it is just a bit there.
The bag is fine as well:D
A theater like maker for home would be neat to have, bragging rights, but it would be a job to keep it clean. Maybe when I have a hired some ushers to make and clean it up:D

Hot air, my own melted butter to taste. If I have to go micro Newmans Own has butter popcorn with no trans fatty acids or hydrogenated oils. Not too bad.

Orville Redenbacher's Natural Light. I don't like weird chemicals in my food if I can avoid it, and this is less salty than some. See:

http://www.orville.com/gateway?waf.action=P04ProductDetail&productID=1012&mnav=products

If you want it "heavier", you can go with Orville Redenbacher's Natural:

Of course, I am not saying that microwave popcorn is best, but if one is going to insist on microwave popcorn, the above is the best I have had.

I'm with whomever liked the stove top stuff...the old fashioned way. But for the OP who wants opinions of MW PC....ACT II is tough to beat...Butter Lovers variety. And it's just filled with transfatty palm oils...just like the theater stuff. Uck and yum, all at once. ;)

Mmmm! Popcorn...

I just like popcorn, period. Carmel popcorn, candied popcorn, buttered, cheesy, salty, kettle style, etc. Though I must admit, my absolute favorite is air popped white kernel corn, with nothing on it. That way I don't feel guilty, and I can eat a whole big bowl of it. :D

I also liked the kind my parents had once when I was a kid. Looked like an electric frying pan, but with a clear dome on it, put a bit of oil in the bottom, and then some corn, and put the top on. Once it finished the entire dome was full of popped corn! Turn it upside down, and use the dome as the bowl. It was really neat!

Some friends of mine had a whirly pop, which was neat. They would put Parmesan and salt on it while still very hot. VERY GOOD! :p
